Poll: Auto Insurance

Who is your auto insurance with and how much do you pay?

I have Geico and it's like $612 or so for six months. I pay monthly so it breaks down to $106ish with the stupid transaction fee or whatever it's called. I haven't had any tickets or accidents since '99 (knock on wood). My sister has had a ticket or two and has an suv as well and only pays like $60ish per month. (actually my vehicle is classified as a wagon) Am I getting ripped?

Re: Poll: Auto Insurance

  • I'm paying about 575 every six months. I have Nationwide. I do not have any tickets (knock on wood) or wrecks on my record. If your under 25 it's a little more. My ins went down when I turned 25. I would also look at what kind of coverage you and your sister have. If you have a house look at where you have your house insured too. They offer discounts!

  • We have State Farm, I think it's only around $130 for both of our vehicles every month.  I know every time I have checked with Geico, it was going to be outrageous compared to what I paid already.  I might would check around and see if you could get a cheaper rate somewhere else.
  • we have nationwide and pay about $136/mo for both of our vehicles.
  • We have ours through Horace Mann...which is an insurance company for people in education.  I pay about $66 a month for my car....DH pays about $95 a month for his truck.  It went up a good bit because DH had 2 small accidents in under one year :(

  • I had Progressive, and I paid about the same as you do.  I would always work it out to pay at once so that I wouldn't have to pay that fee.

Now that I'm married, I have USAA.  I couldn't believe how much that saved!!

  • We pay ours every month and it is $96 for both of us.  I drive a car that is 9 yrs old and DH has a 2 yr old truck.  Neither one of us have had tickets or accidents.  I would call around, yours sounds pretty high.

  • I have State Farm and it averages about $75 a month.  I haven't had any reported accidents or tickets.  Oh and my car is a pos.
  • Progressive on one, it is 856 a year. My son is on the policy so it just went down because he turned 25. I also get a discount for paying in full for each six months and another discount for paying online.  It's still high in my opinion.

My husband has Geico for our two vehicles and his son's car. I shudder to think how much that premium is, I've never asked. His son just turned 18 and is driving a Corvette, it's an older one but still, I think it's dangerous to put that much power in the hands of a kid.

  • We have Alfa.  It's 500 and something dollars (I can't think of the exact amount right now) for 6 months.  If we paid it per month it is broken down to 91 dollars.  That's two cars...one new and one that is paid off.  I get a discount since I am a teacher.  It should go down some when my hubby turns 25 later this year.
  • Thanks. I miss driving my '94 Escort. Ridiculousy cheap insurance. I'm 28 so the age factor kicked in a few years ago...I was so thrilled at the time.

  • We have full coverage on both of our cars and I think we pay about $90 a month for the two of us (total)

     We have USAA

  • We have Alfa and pay $700 for both of our cars every 6 months.  One car is 05 and the other an 08.  I have a ticket and an accident on my record .  I use to have Statefarm and I paid 525 for just my car every 6 months.  Next year my ticket and my accident go off my record so we will probably shop around then.  ALFA has tons of discounts they offer though.

  • I have an 06 Camry, and I pay about $480 or so every 6 months (breaks down to $80 a month).  No accidents, no tickets.  They are supposed to be requoting me, because mine just went up about $10/month.

I need to do some shopping around.

  • I have an 04 Hyundai Sonata and we pay about $62/month for insurance. No accidents, tickets, etc. We have roadside assistance, i think a $500 deductible.  We're with Geico.
