Pros/Cons of Los Angeles?

What can you tell me about LA? What are some pros and cons of living there, in YOUR opinion? Thanks!

Re: Pros/Cons of Los Angeles?

  • Pros: tons of stuff to do - theater, concerts, restaurants, outdoor activities, the ocean, the weather, the mountains.

Cons: traffic, no sense of a "community", expensive cost of living, paying for parking everywhere you go....

Those are the things that I think of off the top of my head.

  • what mindy said.

i love that we can hop in the car, drive an hour, and end up in the mountains, the beach, or the desert. ?the wide variety of good restaurants is a big bonus. ?

traffic bites ass. ?the lack of decent public transportation that will take you anywhere (like in nyc) blows, too. ?and i don't really love hot ass weather, but it sure beats living in snow or humidity. ??

  • some more pros: the ethnic diversity of the city, the food and restaurants, shopping.

agree with all the cons, especially the regarding the high cost of living, the traffic and lack of public transportation

  • I'm not a fan.  I grew up in San Diego, but I've lived in LA for 10+ years now.  I'm moving out of LA at the end of the month (hooray)!
    Here's my take...

If you're bigger than a size 6, you're fat.  If you're bigger than an 8, you're really fat.  It is so ridiculous how cruel Angelenos (men and women) are to normal-sized women.  The people are just rude in general (it's made me rude).  They are very "entitled."

There's a lot to do, but nowhere to park.  Really poor city planning.  Parking lots are expensive.  It costs $400/mo to park where I work!  I take the train instead.

The people-watching is fabulous.  Everywhere I go I see facinating people: crazies, celebrities, wannabes, tourists.

There's a lot to do, but no one wants to do it.  People in LA are lazy and snobbish.  They'll go to the same clubs and shops over and over, but won't set foot in a museum.  Or they'll go to film festivals and gallery openings, but not to tv show tapings or bars.

It's really expensive.  Houses and apartments are over-priced.  Drinks are over-priced.  Everything is at a premium.

It takes 45 minutes to go 8 miles.

There are a lot of glamourous moments if you know some fun people and are at the right places.  They're fun times.

Otherwise, it's filthy.  Everything is in disrepair and covered in graffitti or bodily fluids.  Downtown and Hollywood actually smell like urine.  yay.

The beaches are small, dirty and hard to access.  Good luck parking there, too.

  • wow...ariajean did a great job of summing it up...lol.  Seriously.  That is how I feel about a lot of the places.
