house hunting trip!

Hey ladies,

Thank you again for all the helpful info regarding places to look at. We will be coming down next weekend the 15th-18th.  Now...do you ladies have any shopping or restaurant recs? Sushi, mexican, all around american? Or other things to see or do while we are here in between checking out apartments?

 Bring em on!

Re: house hunting trip!

  • I think there is a post further below about people's favorite restaurants. You could peruse through that for some really good recommendations.

I like Modesto if you're into tapas. It has a slight Mexican flair, but is not traditional Mexican.

Sauce Magazine is a great reference for restaurants in the area. So is stlouis.citysearch.com

I'm not a sushi fan so I'm probably not a good person to ask, but if you want to eat in the Central West End area, there is a restaurant called the Drunken Fish there.

I love McGurks in Soulard. It's a great place in the summer, too, if you're looking for an American/Irish flare.

There are so many good ones to choose from! Definitely check out the post below.

Good luck in your house hunting trip!

  • Per pp, see the favorite restaurant post.  Lots of good ideas in there.

As for things to do, depending on the weather, check out Forest Park.  It's the country's largest public park (yes, it's bigger than Central Park in NYC), and it's home to the St. Louis Zoo, the Planetarium (connected to the Science Center via skyway across highway 64/40), the Art Museum, the History Museum, the Muny (world's largest outdoor stage--the Muny does musicals all summer long), a golf course, and more things that I'm probably forgetting.  There's a Visitor's Center there that will have all the info.  Just neat to drive through it and get lost.

When you're finished, grab a Cupcake at the Cupcakery in the Central West End (on Maryland, east of Euclid).

Take a tour of the Anheuser Busch (InBev) brewery.

    Go up in the Arch.

For shopping, if you want boutiques and off-the-wall stuff, walk through the Central West End.  If you're looking for more traditional stores, my favorite St. Louis mall is the Galleria (at Brentwood Blvd. and Highway 64/40).  West County Center is good, too.  Plaza Frontenac has all the really upscale stuff.  Lots of shopping in downtown Clayton, too.

  • The food is my favorite part of St. Louis!  There are just so many choices!  PPs have mentioned the post below and some good websites for finding food, so you should be in good shape.

Where will you be staying?  Clayton, the Loop in Ucity, the Central West End, Webster Groves, and Kirkwood are all fun places to walk around.

Enjoy your trip and good luck with the house hunting!
