I'll be going to the doctor in March and I'm trying to figure out which birth control I want to get.....
Sooooo, please tell me what you're on and tell me why you like it or hate it.
Keep in mind, I have individual blue insurance and I just got it so I'm not sure what exactly it covers and doesn't cover. I use to have the Mirenu and I loved it but it was taken out and I'm pretty sure individual blue will cover it again.
Help would be lovely ladies, Thanks!
Re: New Birth Control
I have done the ring and pills and the once monthly Lunelle injections. I hated them all....but I am also estrogen sensitive....so I have a hard time with estrogen-based bc!!
I did the Depo shots for 4 years. Just one shot every 3 months. It was wonderful....zero periods for FOUR YEARS! Oh...how I miss that. If we ever decide to crack down and have a baby...I am seriously considering going back on them asap!
I was on Depo for more than a year and thats actually how I had my daughter. I guess I was that like .03% that it wasn't as effective as it should have been. So as much as I loved it and loved not having periods I don't think I'll be going back on it at all.
Pills are really hard for me to remember. Although the last time I took a BC pill it was when I was like 15 so I might be able to remember them better now that I'm older, who know?
I have only heard a little bit about Implannon so I'll have to look into it. I know with the Mirenu I would spot inbetween periods until my body got use to it too. I'll have to look into it, how long does it last?
I'm on Yaz. I like it, but I think that's what causes my horrendous tension headaches I get every now and then. It's a low dose hormone so it doesn't make me moody or anything. The headaches are the only side effects I'm having.
Oh yeah, and a great thing about it is, your periods will only last for three days!
You're probably fine with Individual Blue. I have that too, I was on the pill Yasmin, but now I'm on the generic pill, and it's only 15 dollars a month. I like that about it!
I don't think I can help you with what to pick...everyone's reactions are different. Good luck though!

The ring is the last method I was on. I liked it and it's probably what I'll end up getting. I'm not happy that it's so expensive but I guess I'll deal with that.
I know that it'll effect me differently I was just curious as to why or why not y'all might have liked a certian method.
It last 3 years, but you can take it out whenever you decide to. Its nice because for three years you don't have to do anything, no pill, no switching things out nothing... and for me it was only 25 bc my insurance paid. If you have anymore ? my email is soucyk at uah dot edu
I too take Yaz, I don't have the luxury of 3 day cycle mine have been 5 or 7 days and very irregular with it. I did take Yasmin before and like it but it did give me AWFUL migranes so it's out.
Thanks Karinasoucy!
I already have bad migranes so that would be a no go for me too, if it effected me that way.
Thanks everyone!
I'm a member of the FAM club too I was on Ortho Lo like you, and it made me evil. I cried and screamed all the time and never wanted sex- ever.
I've been doing FAM since december and I really like it! It's inexpensive, no fake hormones, and it's nice to be informed on what's going on with your body. I just never felt comfortable blindly relying on synthetic hormones for something that was important for dh and I to avoid. My thing was, how did I know I was missing my period because of the hormones, or if it was because I was pg? We're still using backup until my cycles work themselves out.
Before Ortho Lo, I was on Nuvaring and before that Sesonale (I think it's called Seasonique now?). I gained 20 lbs on Seasonale, and Nuvaring actually launched me into a full-fledged depression. I guess I'm just sensitive to the hormones =P
I used to take the pill (I had to go on at age 16 for ovarian cysts, so I've been through a few brands). The last one I had was Yaz, and while it was great for a few months, after a while I had the worst time on it - crabby, moody, awful, awful cramps.
I got the Paraguard IUD in July of '07 (thats the one without hormones). I have never felt better in my entire life. My periods ended up being a little heavier, but I don't get any cramping, no bloating, no PMS. I will never go back on a hormonal BC after this. Plus I don't ever have to think about it.
I've also heard stories of women who have had Paraguard and hated it, but I love it.
I've heard of FAM, but I have no idea what it is and how you do it. I guess I would have to read and figure it out if I wanted to do it.
I use to have the Mirenu, like I said and I loved it. The hormones didn't bother me and I had very light if any periods. I don't think my insurance will cover it so thats why I was wondering about other birth controls.
?
well, if you're curious, we're talking about it in the Anna Marie post?above. ?it's essentially about keeping track of exactly when you ovulate in order to avoid (or achieve) pregnancy.?
