Visiting Orange Beach/Gulf Shores

Hi!! Im looking for some local perspective on what some of your favorite things to do, places to go, eat...etc are! Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

We have vacationed there before, but haven't been back for the last 3-4 years!

Just looking for some other ideas that are not so common....non touristy if that makes sense!!
TIA!

Re: Visiting Orange Beach/Gulf Shores

  • Hi!  I live in OB, so I'll try to give you some good info.

The most popular/touristy restaurant is Lulu's in Gulf Shores.  The Hangout was opened last year and is on the beach in Gulf Shores.  Both of these are all about atmosphere - you can find good food, but that's not why you go if you know what I mean.

I would highly recommend Gulf Shores Steamer for good, fresh seafood.  I like Sea n Suds too - it's on the beach.  Both of these are not fancy but are good.  The Oyster House is also good.  DeSoto's is very popular this time of year - meat & 3 veggie type meals and seafood- to get a seat at lunch you must arrive at 11!

There is a new restaurant called Cobalt in Orange Beach under the Perdido Pass by the Caribe resort.  We just went there for lunch yesterday for the first time - their menu has a big variety and the view was nice.  I can't speak for much of their food since I've only been once :)

And just a PSA - avoid Big O's - my DH, mother, father, and I all got food poisoning there in December!

As far as things to do, I just like the beach.  There are a couple new shopping centers - The Wharf in OB and The Pinnacle in GS.  And of course, there's always the outlet mall!  HTH and have fun!

  •  DH and I vacation in Gulf Shores at least once a year.  We really love it.  The beaches are so pretty...and it is so much more quiet.  You can really relax and have a good time.  It is not so overly crowded like PC!  I know that lilcrablegs posted tons of great things to do.  I thought I would just throw in our favs :)

I love Sea n Suds...and Bahama Bobs for a quick lunch.  They are both on the beach..so it is pretty to sit out on the deck and eat.

The Original Oyster house and DeSoto's are great places for dinner.  The food is really good...and DeSoto's has some of the best smoked tuna dip I have ever eaten.  They are both extremely busy for dinner.  We usually have to get there before 5pm to avoid a huge wait list!  Uncle Bubba's is also a fun place to eat...and the Tuna Steak is really good :)  For dessert Scoops ice cream is one of our favorites....and Hope's Cheesecake is the best!!

  • If you're there on a Sunday, you must go to Hazels for brunch. That's one of my favorite things about GS. You may have to wait a few minutes, but it's worth it.
