New OB-GYN between Deltona and Orlando/Preferred hospital for delivery

Hi all, it has been ages since I've posted but you ladies usually have the best info.  We just found out we are pregnant.  The first Dr. appt. is tomorrow, but I found out that the female Dr. at the office I go to is no longer there, and I'm not totally comfortable with a male Dr.  Also, this Dr. delivers at Winter Park hospital which I know nothing about.  What hospitals are good for delivery.  I've only expierienced FL Hosp Altamonte and it was a terrible experience.  Won't go back there.

Thanks a bunch.

Mia

Re: New OB-GYN between Deltona and Orlando/Preferred hospital for delivery

  • I stayed overnight at Winnie Palmer twice while I was pregnant, and then again for several nights when I delivered. I had a fantastic experience there and wouldn't think about delivering at any other hospital. The nurses were very sweet and informative, and spent a lot of time with me. The layout and design of the facility is done so that you don't feel like you are in an actual "hospital." That was a huge bonus for me since I detest hospitals!

I will say that their triage was absolutely crazy the days that I saw it. Luckily I was induced, so I didn't have to sit there while in labor.

They do offer tours, so if you are nervous about the facility, perhaps you should sign up for a tour.

  • I delivered my son almost one year ago at Winnie Palmer. I went into triage and it was not busy at all. There were at most two other moms in there while I was.I plan to have any future children there as well.

This is the office that I used http://www.obandgyn.cc/ It is a group practice. They have an officein Winter Park on Clay Ave and also one on Sand Lake in Orlando.  I usually see a np and she is awesome. I saw her all the way until my 3rd trimester when I had to start seeing the different doctors. I was really nervous about have a guy as my doctor but everyone there always made me feel so comfortable. A male doctor even delivered my son.

  • Lots of my coworkers (at Florida Hospital Orlando) had their babies at FH Winter Park, and they've given nothing but great feedback. They have a brand-new L&D facility which is supposed to be very, very nice. I plan to go there myself when my time comes.

  • Just stay away from Central Florida Regional in Sanford.  They have practically no infrastructure and very few specialists on staff should you have any problems.  With Orlando Health (ORMC) and Florida Hospital you can at least be transferred to another hospital in their group should they be unable to provide a specialist at that particular hospital.

I personally prefer the Florida Hospital group but I am biased because I work for specialists and they refuse to go to any other hospital group.  I hear tons of good stuff about Winnie Palmer (it's too far for me though, my family wouldn't be able to spend as much time with me in the hospital that far from home, plus I worry about the traffic getting there; yuck!)  I had a great experience at Florida Hospital Altamonte but it has been since they remodeled and restructured the hospital.  I like that it's close to my home and my OB/GYN's office is on the FL Hospital Altamonte campus, so he's nearby if I have any problems.
