XP: Clicky poll: Do you have...?

I'm curious, I posted on my local board, but I wonder how the SSH compares.  Are we more proactive in doing legal paperwork since we don't have federally recognized marriages? Just curious...

A) An Advanced Directive & Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare

B) Revocable Trust

C) Will

D) Financial Power of Attorney

Re: XP: Clicky poll: Do you have...?

  • i'll be honest....we have none of the above.  granted, we do have some legal protection because our marriage is recognized by the state and the state would oversee any conflict if it happened to arise. we did have a lawyer set up for all this prior to CT granting ss marriage and we will absolutely have a living will when we have a child.
  • I have an Advanced Directive and Durable power of attorney.  My trust is done but it needs to be notarized and then funded.  The funding is going to take a bit of work.  I have paperwork though to change the deed on my house and my bank accounts to the trust so hopefully it won't be that bad.  My will is done, but I'm thinking of changing it to include specific item requests.  Right now K gets everything, but I should probably specify where certain family jewelery goes.  The Financial power of attorney is in the works.

I'm hoping all of my stuff will be done by the end of March.  K has promised to complete hers as soon as her school year is over.

With NY recognizing us I've been kind of slow on this too.  However my house is in CA and I figure the more legal protection the better.

  • we have a and c. when we set everything up we decided not to do financial poa because it wasn't necessary for us at the time, although we will likely do so when we redo our wills. we've talked about looking into a trust but haven't set one up at this point.
  • currently none, but we're planning to do the will & POAs this month, and will probably do a trust before kids.
  • We have A & D done. We need wills and possibly a trust, especially if children are involved.
  • We have financial powers, medical powers, living wills, and regular wills. Yea. We are nuts. lol. Sadly it will all have to be rewritten in a couple years when Ethan fully transitions.
