Scott and I are planning a 4 day trip to Clearwater, FL in April(ish) and I need some advice. We are not vacation people so we literally know NOTHING about what we're doing. We're hoping for a couple of relaxing beachy days with a couple of whole day trips. One day we want to go to Sea World ... ok, fine. But I'm also considering a few other places and I need some input. We've never been, so we're booking this blind and could use some help!
Busch Gardens: Is it more of an animal park or an amusement park? I know there are both animals and rides, but are there more of one or the other? We are NOT looking to go on rides. Is this a waste of time?
Aquatica (Sea World's water park): Anyone been?
Lowry Park Zoo (Tampa- $20pp to get in): It seems to be just a great family zoo. Not sure if I want to spend a whole day of my vaca at a plain old zoo.
Other things to know: this is a no kids trip, just Scott and I. We're looking at the "discount passes" through Sea World, so we can get SW & Busch for $90 OR SW & Aquatica for the same price. The regular admission for SW is $65. Also, I will be about 24-25 weeks pregnant! Which parks seem like a good or bad idea for a prego? (Hence, no rides). I want to get the most bang for my buck, so which park would you spend $25 extra to get into knowing I'm not allowed on rides and such?
Any other ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much!!
Re: Florida questions inside: please come in if you know FL!
Well, I'm by no means an expert, but I've been to Florida quite a few times and have done the whole sight-seeing thing. Sea World is great. I haven't been to Aquatica, so I can't say anything there, but in my experience everything associated with Sea World has been great. In their San Antonio location they have a theme park area which was a ton of fun, so I'm going off that. As far as Busch Gardens, I've never been but my dad went a couple times and from what I understand it's mostly about the rides. One suggestion would be Sunken Gardens. For a detailed description visit http://www.floridasbeach.com/cms/index.php?id=3092. It's beautiful and totally worth going in my opinion. I hope this was helpful!
I used to live in Spring Hill which is about 30-40 from Clearwater. Clearwater is my favorite beach in the whole world!!!!! It is gorgeous, and it totally has that vacation feel.... very different then any beach in NH.
Busch Gardens is a lot of fun, it is half amusement park, half animals. It really is enjoyable as adults, and you could easily spend all day there. Since you can't do rides, there are plenty of animal things to see and do.
I have never been to Lowry, but my mom has taken my little brother and he loves it! You get to feed all the animals and they have a new baby elephant that was just born. Not sure if you would want to do that or not.
Seaworld is well seaworld.... I love it... others could take it or leave it. Lots of walking, tons of animals, shows etc I think its great! I would do seaworld in a heart beat... I don't know anything about aquatica. Sorry. I know Shepards is a good night club, but you may not be looking for some place like that.
I have friends that still live there, so I will ask them and see what they suggest. Clearwater itself doesn't have a whole bunch except the beach, so I will probably have more Tampa/Orlando suggestions.
PS Do you have room for me?? I would love sometime on the beach :-(
