Wow, the economy must be bad...

Lots of illegal and some legal immigrants are going home b/c they can't afford to stay in America.  With the number of illegal immigrants here reducing, it really help tax payers.  As much as I sympathize with them being so desperate to help themselves and families, they just have to come into the country the right and legal way.

Re: Wow, the economy must be bad...

  • Maybe this is the reason the economy shut down then, to clear out the illegals.  I think if someone want to come here to live, that's fine and dandy, but it should be done legally, and they should speak the language!  Don't come here and expect our government to take care of you and your family.  Like we owe them or something!

I could go on, but I shall stop here ;)

  • I agree!  Rest your tired, poor huddled masses here but do it through the immigration office...thanks!

  • not trying to be snarky at all....

but i think it might be easy for us to say to come through the legal way, but for those living in absolute poverty in their countries with their families, it might be a little harder in practice. i think it's very hard to sit around and watch your family suffer. some people work tirelessly to save up $, and risk their lives at times to get into the US to do better for themselves and their families, and we might not fully appreciate what they have to go through.

sry, this is a topic that i'm passionate about since i am a product of a cuban immigrant (albeit my dad came into the country legally).

  • I would have no problems with any immigrants being here if it's done legally.  I think if they go through the trouble and dangers of getting here, then they should further do the legal issues also.

Oh, I agree - it's definitely easier said than to put into practice.  It truly is sad the conditions people live in and risk their lives to leave.  I wish the US had more or better programs to make it easier to allow people to enter into the country legally.  Then immigrants and residents would be happy and there would def be less strain on the economy.  The American Dream of working and making a life that you love is fading fast with the current state of the economy, and obviously that's not due to illegal immigrants.

  • People who come in to the country illegally just make it harder for everyone else trying to get in legally. I'm all for immigration (I immigrated to Australia, my husband has immigrated here) but do it legally. I appreciate the struggle many people go through in their home countries, but they screw everyone else over doing it the wrong way. Do it legally so you don't make it harder for people in your home country who may be in the same situation and trying to find a better life.
