boys and valentines cards....

can a company please make 20 generic cards that just say, "happy valentines day!"- as opposed to: "You're amazing" or "Your hot" or "You rock my world".

Seriously folks. We spent $8.00 on dumb cards because only half of the cards in each box were okay to give out. There was no way that Isaac was giving Shaun a card that said, "Made for each other"....

Ugh...someone in the creative room at the Willy Wonka Factory is obviously a little hard up.

Re: boys and valentines cards....

  • That sucks! I noticed last week that there just aren't a lot of options for boys in the valentine's section. How hard could it seriously be for the designers to think these things through?
  • Jenn- next year we will be doing a DIY valentine treat. He can give out pencils with a tag or a lollipop with a tag. I REFUSE to do this again next year. Some of the sayings on these cards are crazy. H wanted to make sure nothing Isaac gave out was suggestive because boys are cruel and god forbid Isaac give a "lovey" card to a boy, ya know?

  • I bet! We had similar issues when Michaela was attending all girl school. We wanted to give out girly cards, but without them sounding suggestive. I don't understand why children's cards need to have such sayings on them, regardless of who's receiving them. There's no reason for "you're hot" on children's cards.

  • DIY is a great idea!!

Then you can put sayings on them like.  Thanks for being such a great friend... Happy V-day.

I hand made all my vday cards this year.  I've been doing it for the last year and   a half.   Ever since Marina started me on going to the scrapbooking expos.   Commerical cards are so lame and over priced!

  • Lisa...I know two moms who both were doing DIY for that EXACT same reason....what's with this?
  • BTW- To top it off, his teacher doesn't allow her class to write a name on the to: line. Pain the rump. So, there were only 10 cards in the box of 30 that we were able to use.

Mindy- hold your baby tight because gawd, by the time they get to school they are exposed to sooo much shi*, it's outta control. One of the girls in Isaac's 3rd grade class came out of the closet a few weeks ago. No, I'm not joking. Julianna in his class is a lesbian. Surprise

    Indifferent WHAT THE!?????

I don't even want to think about how things are going to be when I have children Tongue Tied

  • WTH!  I don't think I was at all "ready" for that at age 8, 3rd grade.

  • So funny you mentioned this cuz as I was doing them with Lex last night I was wondering if I was going to have to go thru all this again with Aidan. It took her forever to finish too because every kid had to have the right one. OMG....I don't even remember doing that!!
  • Oh Lisa...that is just pure craziness!!  Thinking back to that age...I was only concerened with the running in the streets with the neighborhood kids...how is that we now have kids coming out of the closet at age 8??
  • Indifferent who knows!!!! Sad part is that it didn't really phase Isaac. He claimed he saw something similar on an episode of Degrassi with my little brother. (((ugh))) Amazing but the little guy still believes in Santa, the holiday fun stuff & doesn't know where babies come from! Hahaha. Struggling to keep my baby, my baby! He's only 8....

  • Lisa,

I don't let my students write their name on the cards.  There are good reasons for me. 1) Not all kids can read the names  2) We have a limited amount of time for the party.  So passing out cards with no names takes less time.  3) Because not all kids (at least in my class) can read other students' names.. the teacher ends up passing out the cards, which defeats the whole purpose of the kids giving the cards.

So don't get to mad at the teacher for that one, no names is just good class management.

As for the lesbian girl... WTF... Sounds like my sister's partner who said her son decided in kinder that he liked dressing like a girl.  Remember the pink princess party.  I think that was for his 7th b-day.
