Amusing Questions From High School Students
Two co-workers and I went to a local high school this morning and spoke about "life as a lawyer" for an hour.
The best questions and comments:
Did you ever party when you were in school?
How much money do you make?
What kind of car do you drive?
What do you think of the Chris Brown and Rihanna situation?
Only I could actually answer the last question. My colleagues had no idea who Chris Brown and Rihanna were.
Additionally, with regard to the "partying" question, one colleague made reference to Animal House, which I then had to explain was sort of like an old version of Van Wilder.
Re: Amusing Questions From High School Students
you are no fun!
At least I had an opinion about Chris Brown and Rihanna.
One of my co-workers is younger than I am and didn't know who they were.?
Yeah, I thought so, too.
But, despite the fact she is younger than I am, she has been married 11 years and has a four-year-old.
We are very different.?
i'm also shocked that you were the only one that had heard of chris brown and rihanna.
it sounds like it was a pretty fun morning.
He's been practicing law for 24 years.
And has a hearing aid.

That's awesome!
yay for speaking to teenagers and actually being able to answer all their questions!
?
That's what I want to know too.?
I told them that there are two sides to every story, and you can't always believe what is printed in the newspaper or on the Internet because the press isn't privy to all the evidence. I said that it is also a lawyer's job to do as much research and investigation as possible of all the facts and then to evaluate things carefully when applying the law to those facts.
I refrained from saying that Chris Brown is a jerkwad.?
that is a very PC answer.
although I don't know what I would do if my SO (allegedly) gave me an STD.
That's kind of cool.
Were these kids thinking of going to law school and becoming lawyers one day? Did you say anything along those lines?
I tried to give a fair picture of what it's like to be a lawyer at a large law firm, a mid-sized law firm, and a corporation. I did my best not to be too negative.
At one point, however, the old guy cut me off and said, "Now let's not be too down about our profession."
Hey, I'm honest.?
Or you could have just referred them to ATL. That's brutal honesty.
:-/
It is.
But it's not an accurate picture of the entire legal field.
When I was describing salaries, I pointed out that the range is far and wide.
ATL is only a glimpse of one select portion of world of law.
My company is hiring right now because we are too busy -- a very different scenario from today's bloodbath.?
Glad you're busy, but ATL depressed me earlier.
