Recent Fairfield County Moms

I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant with my first, and I am deciding between two doctors/hospitals.  One doctor is close to where my DH and I work and associated with Norwalk Hospital; the other is closer to my house and is associated with Bridgeport Hospital.  Two of my coworkers who had babies within the last two years delivered at Norwalk and did not care for it; another coworker had a baby last spring at Bridgeport and said it was good (her doctor is actually one of the two I am deciding between).  So, I basically have two questions:

Is it better to have a doctor close to work or close to home?  (I'm leaning toward the latter, as B.port Hospital is also closer to me.)

Has anyone heard anything about the maternity ward in Norwalk vs. the one in Bridgeport, or can anyone share their childbirth experience at either hospital?  Thanks.

Re: Recent Fairfield County Moms

  • I delivered at Norwalk Hospital and loved it. ?Not sure why your friends didn't, but it was a wonderful experience for me. ?Norwalk has a completely renovated maternity ward, it is beautiful. ?The nurses were wonderful, and from a cosmetic standpoint, it feels more like a hotel than a hospital. ?They have an amazing post-partum group there that meets every Friday. ?I'm about to deliver my second there next month. ?Bridgeport is very dated, more of a big-city hospital, in terms of sterile surroundings, but the care is good, I've had many friends deliver there. ?I've never heard of anyone going to a post-partum group there. ?I do know that the NICU at Bridgeport is the highest level, on par with Yale, while Norwalk, Stamford & Greenwich are all one step below. ?In all honesty, I think you should put a lot of thought into which doctor/practice you like best, because you'll be spending a lot of time with them for the next few months. ?
  • Ditto to everything that Teach1 said - I couldn't have had a better experience at Norwalk Hospital...they were all amazing.
  • I delieverd both of my DD's at B-port hospital...one in Aug of 2007 and one in Nov of 2008 (just recently).

Had a great experience both times and I love my doc practice...FFLD County OBGYN's.

All I know is that if I had a choice btwn B-port and another surrounding hospital then I would choose the one with the Level 3 NICU hands down.  Pretty sure Norwalk doesn't have a NICU.  B-port does and it is wonderful...you just never know if you will need it but I wouldn't take a chance.
