HR - Question - Help - Short Skirt!

So - my new assistant is super sweet and young - right out of college.

This is her 1st "real" office job.  I understand that switching from a college wardrobe to a business one can be quite expensive.  It just builds over time.

She wore a sweater dress one day - that was SHORT! By no means am I the conservative type - but it was mid-thigh ish.  I figuered she wouldnt wear it again because she seemed uncomfortable and kept tugging on it. (I mean she cannot bend over to put a file away without her junk hanging out!!)

Well - she keeps wearing it. It has become a topic of conversation for other people in the office men and women.

We/I have never had this problem with anyone else! We are a relativley small office (15) - but we are part of 3000 person corporation.  The handbook is very vague. I know she isnt wearing it to be provacative - and Im sure she thinks its a nice dress - yesterday she wore a blazer over it - that did not help the length.

Any ideas on how to put the breaks on this one??

Im not sure how to approach her without completly mortifying her.

Re: HR - Question - Help - Short Skirt!

  • We had a problem here at my job with a court reporter wearing a very short micro mini.  They basically told her she could not report while wearing that skirt. If she sat down her whole hoo haw would show!!

So is this CW wearing tights?  I think you just have to pull her aside and basically and bluntly tell her, that she has to remember she works in a professional enviroment and her skirts and dresses need to be knee length.  If they are that short I'm sure she can feel the breeze coming up a little higher than it should be.

  • You very simply tell her that dress is not appropriate for the office.  You'll have to give her examples of what is appropriate, because she most likely won't get it.  And I would tell her that if she reports to work in a similar type outfit in the future that you will send her home to change.
