What did you do w/ your maiden name?

Did you keep it post marriage? hyphenate? drop it?

Re: What did you do w/ your maiden name?

  • I moved mine to be a second middle name, so when I sign stuff, I am Cristin MW Last Name. I did not want a longasssignature, so I moved it to be a middle. Apparently, that is weird, so I am curious what ya'll did.
  • Made it my middle name.  This is common with Filipinos.
  • I did the same thing and moved it to be my second middle name, but I just sign my name "FristName LastName" and don't even worry about my middle initials unless it's a legal document.

  • Kept it as a middle name.. I was never given one since it's not really common in England (or wasn't in the 70s)

I really didn't want to get rid of it but didn't want to keep "using" it since both my maiden and married names have an "x" in them! Would have sounded a bit funny hypenated :)

It's on as my middle name on important docs like my teaching credential, masters degree, etc... and I have it as an initial on my bank card and stuff. I also sign my name with the D in the middle between my first and married names.

  • I dropped it. My name is long enough as is!

  • I just dropped it completely.
  • I debated about keeping my last name and adding it to my middle name with a "-" OR just changing only my last name.  My DH preferred I didn't keep my last name.  So, since I was on the border about that decision anyway and I guess I didn't want to make my name any longer to write out, I just decided to drop my last name and keep his.  Besides, I have a brother and he can keep the family tree going with the last name!
  • I dropped my maiden.  I did not like it so I was glad to see it go ;-)
  • After years of having my last name mutilated, I dropped it when I changed it.
  • I kept mine!  DH had no issues with me keeping my maiden name and I didnt want to go thru the hassle of having to change it.  Besides...my name did not sound right with his last name- it works with my middle name but I HATE my middle name!

  • i'm not the traditional girl type, but i was for this.

knowing that it would never be my name again; i kept a couple of things w/ my maiden name on it.  they're my "souvenirs".   Stick out tongue

  • I droped mine!!! I was happy to take my hubby's last name
  • I dropped it.  I went from having a long last name to a shorter one that nobody pronounces right.  *sigh*
