SO last night I was on my own again working 3-11 shift. ?Instead of leaving @ 2:30 am like last time, I left @ 12:40, so I shaved almost 2 hours off my time, maybe next time I can actually be ready to leave @ 11:30 my scheduled time. ?I was so excited last night. ?I think I would have left a little earlier except I had this one patient who kept asking me to check his blood sugar, It was supposed to be only 2x per shift, but I think I checked it about 10 x. ?Then right as I am getting ready to sit down and chart, he calls again and is?exhibiting?signs of hypoglycemia, took his sugar yet again and it was 151, go figure. The a Dr. showed up and was asking me to give some new meds stat, and the 11-7 nurse hadn't shown up yet, (it was already 12).
During my shift the CNA's were gossiping about the girl that was hired with me, that her 1st night alone, which was after she had 1 more day of orientation than I had, she was crying because she couldn't handle it. ?Yes it is overwhelming on that 1st day, but...
Thanks again for always listening to me & sharing my joys, and sorrows ?with you.
Re: getting better at work
Oh my! I am glad that it is getting better....hang in there. I am sure you will be getting a little more used to the ropes and will be fine. Good luck and I am so proud that you are doing this! WooHoo!
I had such a bad experience with a few of the nurses (if you can even call them that) after I had Katie that it made me really appericiate the nice and helpful ones.
I had Katie at 11:15pm, at 5am I called them in to help me go to the bathroom (I had a 2nd degree tear) and I got an earful. They told me that I had to 'learn' to go on my own. Then they were so mad when Matt helped me out and I bled all over the floor....ha ha-guess who had to clean it up? And they did not even give me any motrin or anything after I had her until the 7am shift came in and asked me if I wanted any more pain reliever at 9am...I told them I didn't have any. The nurse had the head nurse come in and talk to me and wanted me to write down what happened, so I did -I was a little loopy, but they still got the point.
Good for you Michelle! Keep up the good work! You are doing an amazing job!
I was in Glendale on Saturday and saw a uniform store on Central north of California...just in case you were still looking for more scrubs. :-)
OMG! ?Some nurses can really be a pain. ?I am sorry you went through that, glad your morning nurse brought in the charge nurse, it is important for management to know when good customer service is not being given. ?Even in school we were taught that we should always treat our patients with respect and care. ?For me I always think of how I would want me, or my family to be treated.
Even with that trying patient, I took care of him and was always respectful. ?Anything else would be unacceptable for me.
I always say, if you don't like your job get another one! ?Hope you never have to go through that kind of care again.?
I am so glad things are getting better for you. Time management has never been my strong suite. I'm hoping I can pull it together, if/when I get a job. It sounds like you are well on your way to being a pro. Good job!
