New to the Nest, New to Chicago

Hello!  I'm new to Chicago, newly married, and new to The Nest.  I left all my friends and family behind in Denver to move to Chicago to pursue a new job and marry my dude.  I work with all men (I'm not even exaggerating, ALL MEN).  The wedding planning kept me pretty busy the first few months here, but now that life is returning to normal and I have time to think I am missing having friends.  I love Josh, but one friend is just not enough, especially when you live with him.  I haven?t got the faintest idea how to go about meeting people in Chicago.  It?s funny, the whole idea feels kind of like dating, but you know, not.  A girlfriend back home recommended joining The Nest, so here I am.  I?m hoping to learn more about Chicago and maybe meet some new people.

Re: New to the Nest, New to Chicago

  • Welcome to the nest. When did you guys get married? My husband and I just hit our 1 year anniversary today. We live in Grayslake. It is so difficult to meet new people. I moved when we got married from my hometown which was about an hour away to where we live now.
  • I think joelen (who can be paged on the What's Cooking board) organizes a lot of GTGs downtown.

    Welcome!

  • Welcome!  What part of Chicago do you live in?
  • Welcome!  what part of Chicago are you in?  When I first moved up here it was pretty much just me and DH and that was hard for awhile but I have been here almost 4 years and I love it and I have met some great friends... I have not attended a GTG yet but love chatting on the boards with these ladies... before long you will just be another Chicago girl! Welcome!!!
  • Are you in the city or burbs?  A PP was right - Joelen is quite the GTG organizer, though I haven't made it to one yet.  There are a ton of Chicago girls on the cooking board if you're food-inclined!

Haha yeah, just looked at your bio and got all that info.  I'm in your area as well and am usually up for a GTG.   I've also started to do some volunteering to meet new people so that might be something you could check out as well.  Chicago Cares and One Brick are some good local organizations to check out if you're interested.

  • I'm in the same boat.  Moved here in August from FL & my husband and I got married in December back home.  He is a fulltime graduate student which means extremely busy.  We live in Highland Park (great apt, great price, safe neighborhood) so its been extremely hard to meet people.
