Re: School Poll
Mrs. Webster did you attend KC public schools?

Jen, I would be interested to know how you're doing your research...
We went straight to the schools...I emailed the district or super...some sent me to their science head and others answered me directly.

So my original reason for posting this poll: My stepson will be attending school in the fall and bio mom will most likely be moving into a school district that she doesn't feel comfortable sending stepson to. I do not understand this. Any ideas on how much private school costs per year? I will do some research as well, thanks for the responses.
Public, absolutely! DH went to private school until 7th grade and he hated every minute of it. We both had excellent public school experiences, plus we both teach in public schools
Plus, we will most likely be moving to a more rural area before having kids, so there may not be a choice!
Why is she moving to an area with schools less than her desire? I would find a new place to live before I looked into private school, IMO.

Exactly, you are picking up what I am putting down. The whole thing just seems backwards and it is making me crazy. It is not for sure that they will move, guess I just get to wait and see.
With as many good public schools in the area as there are, I think it would be a waste of money to send to private school. We would never choose to live in an area with a bad school district.
That said, one of my good friends works in the Shawnee Mission school district and says that if they can swing it, they want to send their kids to private. She works in administration and is familiar with Blue Valley and Olathe schools also. From what she says, there are a number of behavior issues teachers have to deal with in the public schools that are distracting in the classroom that don't happen in private schools.
I still don't think I can justify the extra money. It will be hard enough to save up for college, let alone paying for private school. Both DH and I went to public schools and were fine with it.
I'm not sure yet. I went to public schools, but DH went to Catholic schools K-12 and feels very strongly that the kids should go to Catholic schools. But like one of the pp's mentioned, I had a great diversity of activities at public school that DH didn't have. I know things have changed a lot at Rockhurst since he went, but during his h.s. years, they didn't even have a music program and barely had any arts ed. I want to make sure our kids have an opportunity to get a well-rounded education.
Plus, private schools can be SO expensive! I guess we will be doing more research into the quality of the public vs. private schools when DS is closer to entering school.
Well I didn't have to wait too long. SS has an interview with private school and the house on the market. Holy crapcakes! Catholic school it is and we aren't even catholic.
