Mop

What mop do you ladies use? I had to toss mine so now I am in search for one.

Re: Mop

  • I have a swiffer but don't swife (is that a word?) anywho i just drape it with an old t-shirt and mop with that.
  • Good Question.  I am in need of a new mop as well for the new home.

  • We use the Swifer mop thing. We have lots of carpet, so the swifer is just right and super easy to use.
  • I don't have a lot of carpet, and I have 3 dogs now, it works good.
  • I have a Swiffer for touchups, but my entire house is tile (with wood in bedrooms).  I have the typical Cuban mop "balleta"... the wood stick that is an upside down T... they sell it at Publix for like $12.  LOL  I use old towels draped over it (actually, my cleaning lady cut a whole in the middle of the towel, which is a great idea).

  • I have one of those sponge mops that I got at BB&B. It works pretty well, the only thing is that I need to wash the sponge after every use if not the second time it just pushes the dirt around.

I really want to get one of those steam mops, anyone have one?

In my opinion, those are the best. LOL Tried and true, I'm thinking of going old school myself.

LOL - I use the cuban mop too!  DH apparently doesn't like it (as if he ever mops!) and bought something similar to this http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/439105/Quickie-HomePro-Ring-A-Mop-With/

I still prefer the cuban mop...

  • I've never heard of this Cuban mop thing, but love how environmental it sounds. I like the Swifter wet jet, but hate throwing away those pads. Really like the idea of using a towel, washing it, and using it again.  Bravo!

  • Claire,

    This is the basic idea:

The pole is really inexpensive and you can use any rag/towel/cloth for mopping. My grandmas have always used it and it works great. Gotta love the grandmas! LOL

  • Sorry....I think my computer is acting up. What I was trying to do is quote Jackie. I do the cuban mop thing too. I use those orange sham towels. In-between cleanings i use the steam mop from bbb. I got it as a wedding gift and love it!

I use the swiffer upstairs on the wood floors.

  • I agree the CUBAN MOP is the best.  We use tshirts but my mom uses the orange sham and they work better.

My MIL uses the CUBAN MOP too. I have a question, how do you hook the towels or whatever on there? I've never seen one.

  • Thanks ladies! I never really liked the cuban mop, maybe cause im  from PR (LOL j/k) I just got back from target and I got the same one I had before the Libman wonder mop
  • We have laminate floors throughout the entire house, except in the 2ne BR and the Bath... we got a swiffer wet jet, but since we had been doing some work on the house, the floors were WAY too dirty for the swiffer, which in my opinion is better for touch-ups, and weekly cleanings when the house is not in such bad shape... DH prefers the "Cuban Mop" too! LOL he mopped the other night after our gathering, because he couldn't stand going to bed with the floor so filthy... and when I got up in the morning... the floor was glowing! He did such a great job...

Someone was asking how it works... so here is a general description... You can use any sort of towel, old t-shirt, rag, or those orange sham towels JennyLo talked about (my grandma swears by those, and has already given me a few). You place the towel, or whatever you are using, in the bucket, ring it out really well, and then just "drape" it over the stick (it's an upside-down "T", so you drape the corners so that they fall and drape around the vertical stick, and hang down over the horizontal one)... then, mop away! It's really easy, and works REALLY well... :) Sometimes "old school" is the way to go :)

Thanks I never really knew how those worked either.  I always see them in the store and was curious.  This is better because you actually get to clean the towel and not just ring it out and leave it. Thanks for explaining.

    That was me.

I see, well thats pretty simple. I thought it had clips or something to keep the towel on. I have a ton of sham wows. I love them. I might have to get one.

  • Once the shammie, or whatever you use, is wet, the weight of the water holds it in place :) So it works perfectly... it's great for a good cleaning, versus a touch up. :)

  • Swiffer all the way. I keep it wet by spraying Clorox Green/Natural/Organic whatever cleaner on the pad.

My problem is base boards! How does so much dust collect on those things. You should see me crouch and dust them from room to room. It's funny. Sometimes I use a dustbuster.

  • I use the omop which imo, is not annoying like the Hispanic mom mop. =/

    I hate that wooden stick!

The Omop is eco-friendly (made by Method) and I love that I can use it as a broom or mop. Think of it as the eco-friendly version of the swiffer...but better. LOL.

It has a curve and the bottom moves so that you can get every nook and cranny.
