Metformin vs. morning sickness?
If you have been on met and have been pregnant, how do the met s/e compare to morning sickness? I just started back on met (for the first time since my initial PCOS diagnosis in 2005-- I quit taking it in 2006 because of the s/e), and I have been having a really rough go of it. I am very nauseous all day long, but from the time I wake up till mid-afternoon I am having to actively try to keep myself from throwing up (sorry if that's TMI).
I know if it were morning sickness I would definitely feel that being sick all the time is worth it, so I'm not worried about that. I'm mostly worried about how much worse morning sickness will be than what metformin is doing to me right now, and how that might impact my ability to function at work...

Re: Metformin vs. morning sickness?
I was only on Metformin for about a month (an experiment I talked my practitioner into against her will) but the stomach upset it caused me was about the same as morning sickness, or maybe even a little worse. It's hard to remember since it was so long ago. The difference that made morning sickness worse for me was the extreme fatigue, which I didn't have with the met. Some people don't have that though, so hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones!
Hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize. ?:-)

Kendyl,
Thank you so much for giving me hope! I can tell this is wearing me down because your post brought tears to my eyes. It is so, so true that I have to keep my eyes on the prize. Whatever I need to do to make my body optimally habitable, I will do. As I tell myself on days I don't feel like exercising or eating my veggies: "you don't have to like it, you just have to do it."
Thanks for being such an inspiration over the past few years.
Christine

Aww, no problem at all. I know how terribly the process just chips away at you a piece at a time, but there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds like you have the perfect mindset - you do what you have to do now to have what you want later. The other good thing about Met that I left out of my last reply is that people generally acclimate to it. I didn't because I didn't stay on it long enough, but I know lots of people who had side effects for the first month or two that went away as their body adjusted. And you are exactly right, even if you feel lousy during the first trimester it will be soooo different and so much more tolerable because of the reason for it.
Good luck, my friend!?
