How do you like having wood and tile floors mixed. How does it look and how did you decide where to put the wood and where to put the tile. DH friend told us not to do wood floors all over, but to break it up with tile. But I did not think it would look good like that. Help.

Re: cocajack (jackie)
I don't know why, but wood floors thoughout was never an option for us... we like the look of the tile... and when we found my "dream" tile, we literally had it special ordered from Spain... and it took 3 mo to arrive! Funny enough, it didn't get installed for another 9 mo. LOL
Anyway, I'm not a fan of carpet... allergies, so that wasn't an option. But Dh doesn't like the feeling of cold floor when waking up... makes sense. The solution - wood floors in bedroom.
I honestly like the look. My only regret is not getting a darker (maybe cherry) color. We got a light wood (called pecan), and it is almost the same color as the tile (similar to mexican, but a lot more light orange). So, at first glance, you don't see the break.

I see that make sense to me. I was wondering if you do tile and wood do you make them look similar, but you think they should look diffrent. Man decisions, decisions. Which do you feel like is harder to keep clean the wood or the tile? I have always had carpet until I moved to florida. I love carpet just because it makes your home feel cozy. But it is not an option here in Miami with the type of weather that we have here. Also do you feel like the wood shows marks easily? Like scraps and dings. I would hate to pay all that money for wood and then it look dingy once you have it for a while. I think I like the idea of wood in the bedrooms and tile everywhere else.

My preference is to have the wood floor stand out... but that is all about opinions and preferences.
I think tile floors are harder to clean. But then again, we only have wood in the bedrooms, and 2 of them are never used, so not too much traffic, so less dirtying. The wood floors get sweeped often, but actually cleaned w/ the solution, about every 2-3 wks.
Wood floor does scratch / leave marks, but IMO it is part of the natural look. If you look at it carefully, you can see it, but by just glancing at it, it isn't visable. My worst fear about them when we first moved in was the scratching... but you have to live your life, so after a while, I gave up being so careful, and they are fine.
From what I remember when we were shopping was that engineered wood is best for the FL humidity (forget exact reasoning). That is what we got. Also, bambo wood is more economical, but it is a lot "softer" so it dings / scratches easier. We got a great deal on ours at Home Depot. They were having a 30% off special order sale... plus we opened their CC and got an add'l 15% off.

**totally butting in here**
have you checked lumber liquidators? they usually have some pretty good prices. also, since you're worried about scratches and dings, have you looked into laminate wood floors -- like pergo?? -- just a thought
I have tile in my kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room and wood everywhere else. (then again I also live up North, so I'm not sure if that changes things). GL!
