Child Care Poll

If you have kids and use some kind of child care, which do you use? Any comments on if you like it/why you like it?

 Thanks.

Re: Child Care Poll

  • DS goes to the Mary Linsmeiers Schools.  The center he goes to does not look like this fancy building, but the teachers are great.  DS's teacher has been with them for 15 years and the director for 13. To me keeping employees that long says something about the center.   I also liked that there is a separate nursery for sleeping for infants.  There are many other good points, but then this would turn into a really long post.

  • My MIL used to watch DD the two days a week that I worked. It was nice to have the free care, but we really started feeling like we were taking advantage of her. Plus, DD really needed the interaction with other kids. That's priceless, IMO.

  • My MIL comes to our house on Mondays to have a special day with DS.  He goes to a daycare center the rest of the week. I really like it because it's professional and reliable and we only have the issue of staying home or needing back-up care when DS is sick or when there's a weather emergency that closes the school.  I like the structure and the regulation.  I also like that DS' class is just kids in his age group (v. an in home that might have babies and toddlers and even school age children after school).
  • DD goes to a center..and honestly it was the best decision dh and I made (for our situation).  We had the opportunity for a close friend to watch her..and I just wasn't comfortable with the buisness arrangement part of our friendship.  Money was an issue..and paying her for days I didn't send DD was another issue (as a teacher I knew centers were more flexible with that).  So, we decided on a center a couple weeks before I went back to work.  She loves the interaction she gets from all the other kids.  It has made her a very social kid.  Her teachers are also very nuturing and caring.  It's a small center (20 kids max) and that was important to me as well.  I wanted a place where the teachers had a handle on all of the children.  I'm trying to stay home next year, but when I go back to work, I will send her back to a center vs. in home.
