XP: Changing vehicle registration/title

The only thing I haven't changed to my married name is my vehicle title. I need to buy my new vehicle sticker by the end of the month and I really do not feel like going to the DMV again to change it and pay another $65. Is it that big of a deal if I just renew with my maiden name?? TIA

Re: XP: Changing vehicle registration/title

  • when I got my new DL back in August, I asked about this,...and they said it wasn't necessary.  She said (lady working at the DMV) that it was basically a waste of $65....if necessary, she said you could always just show a paper trail (marriage license, etc..) of the name change.

So, I didn't do it....  HTH!

  • When I got divorced, GMAC wanted me to pretty much go to hell and back to change my name on my loan/registration paperwork.  Instead, I just carry my old drivers license with my married name in the back of my wallet in the off chance that anyone questions the name difference on my registration.  It hasn't been an issue yet.
  • I changed everything except my vehicle info..so youre good if you just use your maiden name..

  • i work in license and title and it isn't necessary to change your title. Just when you sell that car, sign the title with your maiden name/or name on the title. It would definetly be a waste of $65.

  • I don't know how reliable the information is...but when I went to change my name on my title, the people at the SOS office said that if I had changed it within a year of changing my name, then it would not cost anything.  Of course the year before when I tried to change it, they told me I couldn't since it was still technically owned by the finance company.  Worth looking into, though.
