Anyone a part of a produce co-op or CSA?

I'm thinking about joining one so can eat more fruits and veggies and I like the idea of getting different produce to try each week.  Tell me about which one you belong to.  I was looking into Suburban Organics in Voorhees.

 Thanks!

Re: Anyone a part of a produce co-op or CSA?

  • I have no idea what these are, so I'm intrigued to learn more!
  • I dont know of any co-ops around here.  If you find one please let me know.  I do belong to a CSA and really love the idea of it.  The one I go to is in Franklinville so depending on where you are (you mention Voorhees) that may be a bit far.  I only got a mini share, its just the H and I, and found that was too much.  Since it was the smallest share I just washed and cut everything then froze it.  I still have collard greens in my freezer.  I am not increadibly happy with the one I go to and am looking into finding a new one.

CSA- community supported agriculture (and i did not spell that correctly)  The basis of it is you buy a share of a farm so once they start harvesting you get your share in weekly amounts.  Since it is close to you they produce is very fresh and cuts back on transportation issues.  Most farms are also organic but you have to check some are not.

Co-op is a group that will buy in bulk and split the goods between them, most of the goods are fresh produce and other organic supplies.

Here is a good  site for both.  http://www.localharvest.org/

Thanks for the offer but Hammonton is bit of drive from where I live.

  • I've never heard of this, but now I may join the one in Williamstown/Pitman.  It looks like a good deal!
  • I am going to sign up for the one in Pitman/Williamstown this year.  I have heard really great things on that farm.  If you dont want to have a share they do sell their extras at the farm on Sundays I believe.

  • I think I may sign up for the Williamstown one too.  The price wasn't too bad for a medium bushel.   I can't wait until June!  I think this really help me eat better.
