Dental Cleaning question

I got my dental cleaning today with a new dentist's office.  They told me I they were not going to give me fluoride treatment when I was done with cleaning when I asked them about it.  Arent you supposed to have a fluoride treatment once a year?  They were well aware I havent had fluoride in like 3 years.  My insurance covers it.  Found it odd.  I just remember once a year always getting that tray of fluoride goop that dentists always said was a MUST..it was part of the cleaning routine.  Just curious if you all get fluoride still before I call and find out why I was denied it.  Maybe its no big deal.  My checkup showed no dental issues.

Re: Dental Cleaning question

  • Hmm ... I don't remember ever receiving anything like that. I'd be interested in hearing what everyone else says though. Maybe I've been missing out! :-)
  • My dentist doesn't do this, but they're far from traditional. My cleaning lasts 5-10 minutes with little to no scraping... it's an "ultrasonic" cleaning! LOVE IT. I use Act mouthwash every night to get fluoride.

  • Maybe its an old fashioned practice.  I asked some people at the gym tonight and they said they dont get it either.  I need to get with the times :)

there is fluoride in drinking water now, maybe that's the reason?

  • I think once you turn 18, no more flouride...that's pretty much how it worked with me.
