Where to take sis this weekend downtown?

Hi all...my sister (36) and her good friend/co-worker (40-smth) are coming into town this weekend for a conference.  I live in Bucktown,...and sadly rarely get out downtown,...usually stay local or neighborhoody...  They are staying at the Holiday Inn at The Merchandise Mart.  Where would you recommend going for food/drinks in that vicinity?  They are definitely game for drinking some cocktails/beer/vino,...but probably not anything "clubby"...  Wine bars, or other cool, unique bars/restaurants would be great....any suggestions??

Thanks so much :)

  • Just north of MMart is Cafe Iberico for tapas and drinks.  That place is always fun.  You'd also be pretty close to the House of Blues.  Even if you don't like the shows, they also have a mellow bar area with live blues, and a gospel brunch on Sunday.  Bin 36 is a good wine bar near there, too.

This might be out in left field, but if they like chocolate, Blommer's is just west of MMart, and they have a super-duper gift shop that's open during the day M-Sa.  Yummy and cheap!
