Considering getting off BC

No we're not TTC yet, I'm just thinking of ways to save money.  But.....I'm terrified. LOL I have been on BC for nearly 2 and a half years.  I have been lurking on GP and I see where some ladies mention that their body gets out of whack the first month or two off BCP.  Before I started the pill, I was always irregular.  I knew that my body would go through adjustment, but just became accustomed to knowing exactly when AF will be here (and the 3 day periods have also been worth it).  I know I'm being silly, but that's just the way I feel.

I'm also interested in FAM/NFP so I need to start doing research on that.  I need to go to the library and check out TCOYF.  So wish me luck with that and with successfully getting DH on board.

Siggy coming soon....

Re: Considering getting off BC

  • I was scared at first too, but it has been really worth it.  You'll really appreciate all the info in TCOYF and you can always ask us questions!  Good luck, girl!
  • You're not silly. I got off of it a few months ago when we started trying, but now we're not trying, but my body is so out of whack I'm sure we're not really preventing either. I feel SO much better than on those crazy hormones though, but charting is not easy for me. It keeps changing my ovulation date and the possibility of conception every few days and then I totally freak out because it always tell me HIGH possiblity! Hubby is estatic and really wants a baby, but I keep changing my mind. I keep thinking what if this or what if that, but I guess I could do that the rest of my life, soo.....maybe one of these days I will surprise ya'll with a new ticker!
  • I guess I just have the typical nerves of the unknown.  I'll finish with my pack tonight so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks ladies for justifying my silliness. :)  Alesha, if you don't mind if I can't find that book I would like to borrow it from you.

    Siggy coming soon....
  • I have no advice on NFP, but I got off BCP almost 2 years ago now (I got the IUD that does not have hormones).  I can't rave enough about how much better I feel being off BCP - it made a world of difference - for the better!!  Good luck!
  • good luck! i've been doing FAM for 5 yrs now (can't believe it's been that long), and have never been on bcp. it was a very hard decision for me to make, but 1 that i am so glad i did make. it's definitely overwhelming at first, but you learn so much about your body...i wouldn't have it any other way. ((hugs)) you can do it!

As much as I want to let you borrow it, I've been reading and re-reading it so much lately. It's my fertility bible, lol!   Here's an online copy of it that I found: http://tinyurl.com/am52z You're going to want your own copy anyway to highlight and write in. I got mine on Amazon.  It looks like some listed now are as low as $5.97.  I wish I'd gotten mine that cheap, but it's definitely been worth the $13 I paid.

Oh I didn't think about Amazon!  It is always cheaper than the stores.  Thanks for the link girl!

  • I am also going to go off of Birth Control soon! I am waiting until my prescription is up in April. I just bought TCOYF on Amazon. It was only $10.00 and that is with shipping. I bought it used and just got it in the mail today!I haven't started reading it yet but I am sure I will have alot of questions too!

Maybe we can go thru it together! It does seem overwhelming at first but I think I will be much happier when I know what my body is doing instead of it being so controlled!
