Cysts?

Anyone have one or have one treated and how? I have one on my lower back a few inches from my spine and it's very deep and about the side of a quarter. I had a general doctor check it out a few weeks ago and he was a jerk and said it's nothing, don't worry about it. But I am worried about it, mostly because it is now larger and it hurts like hell. Today I made an appointment with a dermatologist, but in the meantime have been googling it and it does not seem to match any type of cyst on the web, pilonidal, synovial, ovarian, etc. Trying not to worry, but not having much luck...

Re: Cysts?

  • I had 3 ovarian cysts when I was 16 - all were removed surgically.  My dad had 5 on his pancreas, and my grandmother had one in her breast - all removed surgically.

I'm glad you're going to see another doctor.  Cysts generally aren't a big deal, but if you leave them, they can burst or turn into something more serious.

  • I've had three ovarian cysts and all three were removed surgically. I, too, am glad that you are getting a second opinion. I hope you get some answers!

  • Please get a second opinion. Just for piece of mind if nothing else!

  • You're doing the right thing by getting a second opinion!  My brother and sister have had some before.  My brother's was on his head and my sister's tend to be on her armpit.  They had theirs removed and one drained.  PP is right, they can become infected and lead to serious problems.  It sounds like it's already inflamed... What doctor told you that it was nothing when it's visible and hurting you?!
  • I have had one on the back on the back of my neck, on my ovary, and on my back.  The one on my neck and ovary I had surgically removed.  The one on my back was drained. You definitely need to get a second opinion.
  • You definitely need a second opinion.  If it is hurting that bad then something needs to be done about it.  Don't let those doctors brush you off!!!!!  I hope you feel better soon!!! Please keep us updated!
