OK I am a detroit nestie. I was laid off from my job in Sept which was great cause I got to be with DS. But DH got laid off in Dec. he took a transfer out to WI for a job. He is a pipefitter and there is a big power plant that is being built out there. So currently DS and I are in MI and DH is in WI working. I see him once a month cause he gets 1 sat off a month. But other than that we dont see each other.
It takes more of a toll on him cause he doesnt have anyone out there. At least I have fam. So he wants us to move out there cause this job could be a while. So we are looking at apts in Oak Creek area.
My issue is DH is working all these hours what will I do in the mean time. At least at home I have family I go and see and things I do. But I wont be working out there. Are there play groups? Gyms with daycare centers etc. What is in the area to keep my and DS busy while DH is working?
Re: What to do in WI?
The PP gave you a lot of good ideas. I'm not terribly familiar with the Oak Creek area, but the entire Milwaukee area has a lot of fun things to do - the zoo, Milwaukee Public Museum, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Discovery World, the Mitchell Park Domes. There's several malls, too, that you could visit - Bayshore, Mayfair, Brookfield Square, Southridge.
There are festivals every weekend during the summer, too (in Milwaukee). Some suburbs have festivals, too. They're always a lot of fun.
Also, in addition to meetup.com, check Yahoo groups - I think there are a few Milwaukee area moms groups that you could meet for playdates and such.
Have fun getting to know the area - it's a great place!
I belong to the WAC (Wisconsin Athletic Club) and love it. they also have a daycare, but the YMCA has a lot more activities for kids as they get older. Oak Creek is a great.
In the winter there are a bunch of indoor play areas. Big Backyard, Monkey Joe's, Delafield Childrens Place, among others.
Another web-site is Milwaukeemoms.com.
For daycares a good place to start looking is this website.
