Nashville Area

Hey girls!

There is a possiblity I will be moving to Nashville in the next few weeks if a job offer comes through. It will be a quick move so I'm trying to prepare as much as possible. The job starts on March 16th and is in the city of Nashville. My question is what are safe areas on the outskirts of Nashville? I am looking for a townhome or house to rent if I can find one. Any info or suggestions are welcomed! TIA!

Re: Nashville Area

  • A lot of people like Hermitage, Bellevue, Brentwood, Franklin. ?Personally I don't like the suburbs, but all my friends live out there! ?To each his own. ?;) ?You can actually find affordable places to live that aren't on the outskirts of town as well. ?I live off West End Ave, right next to Vanderbilt, and there's a park just a couple blocks away, and lots of restaurants.

Nashville is a great place to live, as all these places are still an easy drive into the city.

  • I am the opposite...I would hate to live in the city! There are so many areas! I am in Franklin...south of Nashville. Franklin & Brentwood will be pretty expensive. Watch out though for the very east side of Brentwood. It gets more affordable there, but you are also getting close to Antioch which is not such a great part of town b/c of crime. I would say to definitely stay to the west of Nolensville Pike! I know a lot of people who really like Hermitage...I have never been there. Parts of Madison are ok, but you need to be careful where you go. Goodlettsville, Mount Juliet, Green Hills.
  • We also live in the city and love it.  We are in the Sylvan Park neighborhood.  What price range are you looking for?  I would check out Craigslist for some townhome or home rental listings.  Much of it will depend on what kind of lifestyle you are looking for.  Do you want to be able to walk to coffee shops, nightlife, restaurants or prefer driving everywhere/suburbs.  Some of the more "urban" neighborhoods closer to Nashville will be Hillsboro Village, Sylvan Park, Germantown, East Nashville and 12th South.  Green Hills is also close to downtown and very family friendly with good shopping but it is also very congested.  It can be pretty expensive as well.  Good luck!
  • Thanks for all of the info girls! I got a phone call today but I was at work so I missed it. First thing in the morning I will be calling back to see if I got the job!! I have been checking out craigslist on a daily basis and there are a lot of options on there. We would prefer to be in the suburbs and we want to be more East because we have family in Knoxville. Our price range because we are paying student loans is about $500-650. I know that sounds really low, but we don't wanna go overboard to where we can't have fun anymore. Thanks SO SO SO much for all of your help!!!! I really appreciate it a lot! Wink

It sounds like Hermitage would be a nice fit for you all, with that price range and wanting to be east. ?I have lots of coworkers that own houses, and rent apartments out there (and drive into downtown for work). ?Keep us updated, and if you're interested in an apartment, I can find out the names of their complexes. ?:)

  • Hi,

I will be moving to Nashville on March 8 from MN and I really liked Hermitage.  I found some great places that are reasonable(in your price range and mine) that were very nice.  I too, start my new position on March 16.  I also loved the West End and Brentwood but most places were above my price range.  Best of luck to you!!!

  • Hermitage would probably be a good fit for you.  You also might want to check out Mt. Juliet.  It is just a little further out, about 25 minutes to downtown.  I am from Lebanon and have friends that live there and commute, it is the next town east of Mt. Juliet.  The Providence area in Mt. Juliet is nice.  I am pretty sure they have apartments over there, along with houses that might be for rent.  The exit can get a little congested but they are working on it.  There is a nice little shopping center with a movie theater, grocery store, some shops, Target, Old Navy, PetSmart, etc., some restaurants....  Good luck!  You could also check out Donelson.  It is near the airport and between Hermitage and downtown.
  • Thanks for all your help. I've been checking out Hermitage, Mt. Juliet, and Donelson now. Do you know anyone who has actually lived/live in any of the apartments because I'm reading the reviews on them and they are all mixed reviews. Then I think well maybe it's just the people who didn't have a good experience who are complaining on here. I know at the last apartment we lived in they were awful with random charges, car break ins, and robberies. The apartment was really nice but you don't hear about that stuff until it's too late. We are in a house right now so we are enjoying the privacy....it will be an adjustment but we are willing to do it to get into our work fields.
  • Unfortunately, I don't know anyone personally that has lived in any of the apartments.  Although my brother and his girlfriend live in a house in the Providence area so I know it is nice and safe.  This is completely heresay but I have heard that you need to be careful with the apartment complexes in Hermitage.  This may be completely changed now but a couple years ago I heard that one of the complexes had quite a few drug deals that would go down over there.  Unfortunately I'm not sure which one.  I think if you drive around at various times of day you should be able to see which are safe.  Good luck!
  • We just bought a house in Hermitage, so let me know if you have any questions!
  • Hey girls~

Thought I would update you!! I got the job! My first day is March 16th, so I'm going to try and be up in Nashville this week searching like crazy for an apartment. Thanks for all of the tips & suggestions!
