I realize this may come off catty but...
It really seems unfair that they would totally crucify Britney Spears when she performed just slightly over her normal weight several months ago. Nevermind that she was probably drugged because she was acting really crazy...that's not my issue here, I'm just talking bodies. Watching Beyonce perform tonight...all I could focus on were those thighs. Why the double standard where these two are concerned? I wonder if anyone will mention it? I'll just meow myself on off to bed now...my thighs could probably compete with Beyonce's. LOL
Re: I realize this may come off catty but...
I think a big difference is that Britney was a little cukoo and let herself go...
Beyonce was required to gain a lot of weight to play Etta James. And she's always had a bit of butt,
I don't think either is big, and I'd kill to have Beyonce's body.
I think it has to do with people's expectations as well. Beyonce has always had curves, and personally I think they're gorgeous.
Before Britney had kids, her body was rivaled by none... She was in top physical condition. When she performed she was acting so weird and then she had obviously let her body go... so that's why I think people were shocked. Plus there was this huge media buildup leading to the MTV awards about Brit's performance being her comeback, so I think everybody was seriously underwhelmed. I know I was.
I totally agree with you! Of course, Beyonce is a beautiful woman and always has been. But I've always been irked that she and others (J.Lo, Sophia Loren, even Marilyn Monroe!) have been cast as simply "healthy" and "feminine" while some (Brit, Jennifer Aniston, and hello Jessica Simpson) are always ridiculed for gaining 5 pounds. There's definitely a double standard there.
I completely, 100% agree with this! Then it makes average everyday people like me feel like crap because when Brit, Jen, or Jessica gain weight and everyone is calling them fat they still look better than I do =(
I hate the double standard that exists and the message it sends to women and young girls.
Some women's bodies are not meant to ever be a size zero. Women in my family are very curvy, and I'm proud of my curves. But hearing that Jessica Simpson is considered plus size at a size 8 makes my size 12 sound like I'm a cow.
Don't get me wrong...I think all these women are beautiful...I agree that it sends a terrible message to women and young girls in particular when every pound is scrutinized like it is...it is just really unfair that some get away with it and others don't. At the height of Britney's emotional suffering they were crucifying her when she still looked 95% better than most women in the world...How mean can you be to kick someone who is already down? Then Beyonce gets no mention...really no one should mention it, but if it is done to one it should be the same for everyone. I feel sorry for Jessica...I mean women do grow up, they are not going to be the same size they were at 17 forever...it does not work that way. If she is fat at size 8....I guess I'm just a pig at size 12/14.
Unfortunately, that's the state of hollywood... eat or be eaten =( I hate that, too. It feels like slowly it's becoming commonplace for everyone. you know what I mean?
