Longshore workers or Longshoreman wives?

Hi ladies!  Quick intro, I usually post on the Hawaii board because I got married in Maui and moved from the Knot to the Nest with the ladies I planned with.  I live in Long Beach, by El Dorado Park.

Anyways, I am wondering if any of you are Longshore workers or married to Longshoreman.  My DH is an ID (LA/Long Beach) and times are definately trying right now!  I am looking for some commiserating, my stress level is super high and I can't vent to him because he is already so down on this economy.

Have a great week!

Beth

Re: Longshore workers or Longshoreman wives?

  • Here, here.  My husband isn't an ID yet, still a casual.  But I know exactly what you mean.  No letters are moving at all!!!  He has a full time job though too so it's not as bad.  But I also have other family members who are IDs with hardly any work either.  Vent all you want, I'm here to listen.  We live in Wilmington by the way.  Where does your husband usually work?
  • I am glad your dh still has his full time job.  My dh has been an ID for almost 5 yrs.  I just can't believe the shipping industry is doing so poorly.  Just last year, work was there for everyone!  I am sorry that you have family affected by this horrible economy.  It totally sucks!  My dh loves working at Maersk, he always tries to get that job.  But, now he will work anywhere!  My BIL is an A book and hasn't been getting out everyday.  We have been hearing abuot crane drivers who have been sent back to the dispatch hall and are taking HUGE paycuts, so even though they are working, they are still losing or in jeopardy of losing their homes.

Thanks for listening, don't be surprised if I page you on here every once in a while!  I appreciate being able to vent.

    Beth

  • That really sucks about BIL.  My family and friends are doing the same.

I'm in the shipping business too, but luckily we have a government contract so our work is steady.  I use Maersk all the time too.  Love them.

My dh is a dispatcher and everything has been really slow for him.

You can page me whenever you'd like.  I'm here to listen.
