Hi,
Sorry that my birthday review is so late! Dh took me to providence on Melrose last week for my bday. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a really amazing place to dine out with DH. Be prepared to spend $$$$, but its well worth it. Every dish we had was amazing. I've never tasted food so good in my life!!
When you walk in its got a great ambiance. There's only about 10 tables so its very intimate. You can only dine there with resevations, they dont take walk ins as the chef preps everything fresh and has to know how many people to expect.
You can do a tasting menu of 5 items or 7 items long with wine paring for about 100-125 a person. If you do the 7 item the portions are a little smaller. They specialize in seafood. While they had one veal and one chicken entree everything else was fish/lobster/shrimp/crab etc.
I was torn between the tasting menu (so i could try more yummy food!) or ordering a la carte. If you do a la carte, the portions are fairly large, so one appetizer and entree is more than enough. They had a lobster risotto on the menu with black truffle sauce that I REALLLY wanted to try and that was the deciding factor for me to not do the tasting menu. So I order that risotto as my appetizer. WHOLLY crap it was heavenly. I"ve never tasted anything so good...ever. It was so good I was almost going to ask for another and just eat that and nothing else. However, i decided to go ahead with my entree. I had a cod with japanese squid and mussles in a red curry sauce. It too was very impressive. DH also loved his entree and appetizer. He had the chowder to start and a sea bass with chorizo as his entree.
I took about 2.5 hours to eat there. Every single entree was a work of art. It tasted amazing and looked beautiful!! I was amazed at the number of waitors that they had. It seemed like every table had their own. They were super attentive.
If you decide to try the tasting menu with the wine pairing, we noticed that they were giving very generous glasses of wine per entree. The couple next to us had 7 glasses each by the end of hte meal. Of course you dont have to drink it all, but I'd suggest if you go this route to organize transportation ahead of time. (take a cab home!).
I can't rave enough about this place. While its one of those places to go on very special occasions its definitely a hidden gem. You'd never know that this super gourmet restaurant is there unless someone told you!!
So it was a great birthday dinner!

Yes, I've always wanted to try one of these types of restaurants. The food was ridiculously good.
