Data on some background checks missing, state says

Dear Community,
Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. A computer storage tape with data from 12 years of criminal background checks in Arkansas is missing, though officials say there is no indication of a deliberate breach.
The Arkansas Department of Information Systems said Friday that an off-site storage facility can?t find the tape, which has a record of criminal background checks run on 807,000 people over at least 12 years.
The department says the storage company, Information Vaulting Services, said there does not appear to be a deliberate breach.
State police are investigating and, so far at least, has not found evidence of wrongdoing.
The Information Systems Department says it decided to alert the public as a precaution.
Anyone who has undergone a criminal-background check in Arkansas since the mid-1990s, and wants to know if his personal information was included on the lost computer tape can find out either by calling 1-888-682-0411 or going on-line to notify.arkansas.gov.
