Re: PCP/TTC Wednesday

  • K told me to go ahead and order the pictures of our potential donors.  For us, pictures are important because Portuguese can be very light skin and features to very very dark skin and features.  Ideally we'd like to find that middle ground that would best represent K and her heritage.  I'm pretty excited to order the pictures and will probably purchase in April (after saving up a few $$).

Do you think FSA would pay for pictures? ::going on web hunt for answers::

  • Things with us are good...other than the sickness.  I am feeling very sick today and am not looking forward to trying to teach today.  We had an assembly today so I have not taught yet today.  It will be three straight soon though.  That could be interesting.  Our nt scan is on monday and while I am excited about seeing the baby again I am nervous about the results and what are risk for trisomy 21, 13 and 18 will be.  I really hope the scan looks good so I don't have to have an amnio which freaks me out.

Two the pictures are fun. Some of the donors looked good on paper and not so much in photos.  Good luck

  • Our nanny sent me this message this morning (she doesn't usually bathe them, but we were playing last night when we got home and lost track of time...)

We went ahead and got in the bath right after breakfast, and the boys just had the most wonderful conversation!

    Gray: where's mommy?
    Carter: oh, mommy at work.
Gray: but I want mommy here.
Carter: (pats him on the shoulder) but I'm here, and mia's here. I love you gray.
Gray: thank you carter, I love you too

It quickly degenerated to arguing over a cup, but it was beautiful while it lasted!!

  • That is the cutest thing ever 2brides! Makes me heart melt.

I actually have TTC news for once! While we arent planing on starting for another few months (Gotta get T healthy and back to work) but i have still be shopping around for donors. Since Idaho is Red State Hell we can't use banks or IUIs (its considered a misdemeanor in Idaho for a "single" woman to artificially inseminate) so we have known that we would have to find someone local that we could have come over, do his business and leave us to do the babymaking. Well I may have very well found the perfect donor. I found him on a yahoo group I belong to and he lives here in Boise!!! He is going to the University here and will be studying there for the next couple of years, only taking maybe one month to go visit home in the summer, so that would give us plenty of time. He is completely cool with helping us, and hes 6ft tall and has blue eyes like T. Were still just getting to know him but things are looking positive!!!!

two*: I asked this of my FSA (FSAFEDS), but I don't remember offhand what the answer was. I will take a look at home and see if I can find my notes. You could also call your FSA-- ours allows us to ask an "anonymous" question (without giving our member info), if that is a concern.

    2brides, that is so sweet!!

  • Our update: My TV ultrasound last Friday revealed ovaries much, much worse than I've ever seen them before. Up until now, my most significant PCOS challenge has been my "excessive" testosterone level. My ovaries are usually fairly clear. No so any more.

It was interesting watching the front office women debate about whether or not I needed a follow-up appointment to discuss the results with my gyn. One of the women (who had not seen my chart) said "we don't usually schedule follow-ups for an ultrasound" and I watched four others (who had seen my chart) try to subtly hint to her that yes, the situation is bad, and I do need to be seen ASAP (without saying it in so many words, of course, because they didn't know that I knew what I was looking at on the ultrasound screen). Yeah, that was uncomfortable!

So I go back next Friday to officially get the results and (I assume) talk about next steps. Sylvia is coming with me, which is good.

On the up-side, S has been wonderful. Very supportive and empathetic. Poor baby even cried when I told her what had happened at the appt. Unfortunately she googled too much and is now stuck on what she read about a 45% miscarriage rate for women with PCOS (also the source of some of the tears).

  • Not too much new here but I thought I'd pop in to say "hi!"

Still doing the school/doula business/life thing. C and I just had a long intense, but good talk over dinner tonight about plans after the baby in terms of expectations regarding work, income and my possible continuation of my academic career. At the end she said, "well what ever happens I know it will all work out. I know you'll be a good mom and that's why I want our kids to be able to spend as much time as possible with you." It made me cry.

PCP highlights include: spring break trip to LA, spring quarter classes (including an exciting opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a 200-level women studies course) and then moving over the summer.

Our start date is still this fall, hopefully September otherwise November.

  • i was out of the office on wednesday and apparently didn't see this post, but here's our update:

we're waiting. we test a week from tomorrow and this time around has been horrible for me. i don't know if it's knowing that if it doesn't work we'll be moving on to injectables or the trigger snafu or what, but i think i'm going to go crazy.

we did get some potentially very good news, though: it looks like her insurance will cover the injectable, and she'll only have to pay $30 for it (it's not official yet)--which would be such a relief. if we have to pay out of pocket it would be over $2000/month, as i'm sure some of you are already aware. hopefully we won't need it regardless!

  • Work has been crazy this week, so I'm also late to the game.

I am off work today because I have an appointment with my cardiologist. I haven't seen her in 5 years since I had a procedure to fix a heart issue, but she wanted me to come back when I got pregnant since the hormones can cause the problem to reemerge. I haven't had any symptoms though, so hopefully it will be a quicky visit and a "don't come back unless you have problems."  :-)  We'll see.

Our first ultrasound is next week (Thurs) and I'm so so ridiculously excited! I'm also a little scared though... what happens if there isn't a heartbeat?  I'm trying not to think about that because chances are we will go in there and see a perfect little one. It's just a bit nerve-racking!

Otherwise, nothing new to report really. I bought a pair of maternity jeans (Angel) since all of my regular ones are now uncomfortable and push on my uterus. Everyone should have a pair of maternity jeans! They are so wonderful. Lol.

  • 2brides - super super cute story!

Two*true - does your bank actually allow adult pictures of the donors?  Just curious.  I have only seen banks with baby pics of donors.

Our update - we try again in March...

Fairfax has adult photos of some of their donors available. They actually provide a "lifetime" series of the donor at various ages for a subset of donors:
