Has anyone rented a timeshare before?
Are the savings all that much better than getting a travel package?
I am in the process of planning our next trip and am torn between the two options. The savings would only be about $100 a person for a timeshare.
Is there a benefit to going that route?
TIA!!!
Melissa
Re: TimeShare Rentals
We rented one in Whistler, and compared to the $450/night our friends were paying at the 4 seasons, I'd say it was worth our $150/night for a nice cozy condo right in the village. Timeshares are nice because they are often like small condo's, and have a small kitchen, etc. I think it just depends, but its a good way to get a deal on a large space. You might not have hte amenities of a hotel, but often times, you do. (Like pool/spa, etc. but no roomservice)
Learning to start all over again... Blog
the timeshares we've used had amenities. does the one your looking at do? if not, is that a deciding factor? another thing to think about, are you going to use the kitchen, or eat out morning, noon, night? that makes a difference. do you want a place w/ a kitchen if you don't need it? i think it also depends on where you're going. i like having a hotel in big cities; but in beach/ski areas, i like timeshares.
HTH! enjoy your vacay!
We don't cook, so timeshares are not profitable for us. We did a vacation rental in Mammoth with a group and it was worth it because:
1) Lots of people went with us, so the cost per person was low
2) One of the girls cooked the whole weekend.
My only word of warning with a timeshare is that when you go with the kind that are individually owned (vs hotel/resort timeshare), you may end up with something that is nothing like what you agreed to online. This happened to us in Mammoth. My parents rented a certain level and we rented the same. Theirs was beautiful inside, clean, painted, incredible furnishings, granite, all pro kitchen cookware and we ended up with a unit that was furnished from a thrift store. Paid the same price and were in the same complex...so that was a bummer.
Where are you all going?
