Help! Trying to rescue a pit bull back from Metro!
I HATE Metro Animal Control. We found the cutest pit bull wandering around our apartment complex on Saturday. Went for a walk with my neighbor and his two dogs and came up to us outside for some pets. He knew how to sit and shake and was well behaved. We put a collar and leash on him and tied him out, all of which was no problem. He obviously was somebody's pet. We called up animal control and ask if we took him there would he be put down. We were assured all dogs go through temperment tests, etc before that would happen. Well we knew he was not aggressive so we took him there and took his picture for flyers. When DH handed him over the lady says, oh and since he's a pit bull he'll be put down on Thursday if no one claims him. Um, what? My DH was like well if no one claims him, we'll come back and pick him up on Wednesday. The lady said that would be fine. Here it is Wednesday and Metro says well you can't pick him up, you have to be the owner. Since he's listed as a stray and you dropped him off you can't be the owner. What a bunch of shiit! If I would have known I was sending this dog off to his death I never would have agreed to him going! I would have hid him here in our apt somehow until I found a rescue. (We have breed restrictions.) I've had a rescue lined up for him since Monday just in case! I've been through their supervisor and director with no luck. The director even claims to be a pit bull lover/owner but can do nothing to help. I've been on the phone all day with them trying to work something out. I'm wondering if anyone has any pull with metro or a black and white intact pit bull with papers that could be used to pretend he is. I'd love to get him to that rescue. I can't take the thought of him being put down. I only have tomorrow morning left!
