Anyone Live in the Long Beach Area?

DH is considering a job in Long Beach.  Where would you suggest living that isn't too far away and not to expensive to live?

Re: Anyone Live in the Long Beach Area?

  • Long Beach, Lakewood, Belmont Shores, Belmont Heights, Cerritos, Los Alamitos, Cypress, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Torrance.  All good places to live, I think.
  • I am in Long Beach.  Long Beach is pretty big, but if you can give me the general area where in the city he may potentially work, I can give you some good recommendations.  If you need a real estate professional referral, let me know.  Our really good friend is awesome to work with.
  • He would be working at the Port.
  • My DH is a longshoreman, so he works there too :)

As you know, there are good and bad areas in any town.  I would only recommend certain parts of LB, but definately not downtown.  There is the area by El Dorado Park called El Dorado Park Estates and on the other side, an area referred to as the Plaza.  Belmont Shores/Heights or anywhere close to the water is expensive.  Lakewood and Los Alamitos are good.  Stay away from Hawaiian Gardens and I personally don't like Cerritos or San Pedro.

  • we live in lakewood and love it.  we have the greatest neighbors!  we are in the neighborhood between del amo an dsouth, woodruff and bellflower and would highly recommend it.  Dh commuted downtown from here (close to the port) at it wasnt bad for him.  my MIl lives in lakewood village (actually in long beach) closer to the airport and freeway and we love her neighborhood as well...
  • i also live in lakewood, and all of the above gave good recommendations..i love long beach. Its such a fun town.. just be careful because there are some bad areas. I also have a lot of family who work down at the port as well. And a lot of them live in lakewood, its close and a good community.
  • We live on the back side of the hill in Rancho Palos Verdes. Most of the area on the peninsula is pretty expensive, but there are some decent town homes that are reasonably priced. We love the area, and we can see the port from here. My DH grew up in Phoenix and I lived there for a few years. We loved it out there, but we are also really happy here. The RPV school system is also great.
  • I'm chiming in late. I work in Long Beach and live in Lakewood...same area as dvlish. Not far at all. I take the streets to work...no freeways for me.

Houses near El Dorado park in Long Beach are nice...similar to Lakewood homes right along side them.
