Carrie discussion (spoilers inside)

So what did you think of the book? I still want to rent the movie, to see the differences.

I think that I saw this book differently as a teacher than I would have otherwise. There was just so much that was wrong with the way that Carrie's classmates treated her, and honestly, if I had been her teacher, I would have called SRS on her mother long before that girl made it to high school.

As with most of Stephen King's books, this one was slightly unbelievable (I find that his earlier books REALLY are hard to swallow at times), but I really enjoyed the ride that he took me on.

I don't remember all of the killing of the town at the end of the movie - but I certainly remember it from the end of the book, as he described it in vivid detail. I thought it was too much detail at times - there are just some things that I don't need described to me.

  • OMG, glad I'm not the only one who wanted to strangle some high schoolers! Especially in light of all of the bullying stuff going on right now. I can not stand kids being mean to other kids, and I was livid. LOL at the SRS on the mom.

It was a little outside of the real world at the end, but not as bad as I thought. I need to watch the movie again, too, but from what I remember I don't think the whole town dies in the movie, just all of the people in the school?

Not a huge SK fan, but it was a good distraction from the heavier, more serious books I have been reading!

So glad it wasn't just me with the bullying - and as a teacher, that sort of stuff just WOULDN'T happen (the tampons in the shower) without serious repercussions. I just didn't feel like the teacher tried hard enough to stop the situation before it got out of control.

And I didn't think that the whole town had died in the movie either - just the students at the school and her mother. I think it makes for a more understandable story if it is just those students and her mother who die, otherwise, it is just gore/blood for the sake of it.
