Neighborhood / Community Recommendations!

Hey Ladies!

My cousin and her family are moving to St. Louis for an awesome job promotion!  They are in their early 30?s and have a 3.5 year old son and a 2 year old daughter.  Her husband will be working for an organization that is located in the zip code 63045.  He doesn?t mind commuting if necessary.

They are definitely interested in purchasing a house but have no clue where to start looking!  Can you recommend any really nice, safe and family friendly neighborhoods?  Price is not an issue because they are more concerned about the quality of the community and schools.  They will be working with a realtor but want to start researching areas ahead of time.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Re: Neighborhood / Community Recommendations!

  • 63045 is the Earth City/Bridgeton area, which is the northwest corner of St. Louis County.

If they're looking for a newer home/neighborhood in a family friendly area, they could try the St. Charles area.  That would probably be a very convenient commute for your cousin's husband.

Another good option with easy access to the highway so that the commute wouldn't be too bad is the area of Des Peres.  There are lots of subdivisions in Des Peres with tons of kids and young families.  Try looking on www.cbgundaker.com in the 63131 zip code.

Personally, I love the Webster Groves/Kirkwood/Glendale/Warson Woods area (zip codes 63119 and 63122).  There's a real "community" feel, but not much in the way of subdivisions.  Excellent schools, lots of families.  The homes are typically a bit older and are more expensive compared to what you would get in St. Charles--you're paying for location, schools, proximity to the City.

  • There are a lot of great school districts in the area...Ladue, Clayton, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Maplewood/Richmond Heights, Brentwood, Parkway...just to name a few.  All of these areas have nice and safe neighborhoods.  I think your cousin will definately find something to fit her family's needs.  Best of luck to them!
  • If you scroll down to other posts this question gets asked alot.  You can find good info there.

One other option is New Town in St Charles, which is about 10 min from 63045.  Its a planned community that is very socially oriented with concerts, events, family fun, etc.  I'm not sure which school distric it is in, but its something to consider.

  • How far/long does he want to commute?

Creve Coeur is very close to Earth City and has some nice neighborhoods, plus in certain areas you will be in the Parkway School District. They could look there, and it'd be a short commute. They are older homes (built in the 60's for the most part), but larger lots than you'll get in other areas.

St. Charles isn't too bad either...lots of new construction.

All really depends on what type of commute he wants and what price range, too. You get a whole lot more house for your money in St. Charles County, but much smaller lots in the newer subdivisions.

Do they want suburbs, or more of a city feel (but still with good schools)? Are they set up public schools, or open to private?

  • If they can afford it, Clayton is a really nice area with good schools. Some of the neighborhoods are more family-friendly than others, and it's really close to a lot of things to do.

Chesterfield is a really nice area with good schools and neighborhoods. If price is not a big deal, that's a nice area to start with.
