Phobias

Do you have any?

There is this bridge in my town, two lanes, it feels really narrow. I always go home this way and I kick myself everytime I get to this bridge, I just get so scared that the car coming the opposite direction is going to ram into me, so I try and stay as far to the right as possible. I get the urge to close my eyes as I drive over it and get visuals of the massive pile-up that will result b/c of my phobia. Sad part is, I drive a compact car.

Re: Phobias

  • This may be a little too much self disclosure, but I'm that paranoid/terrified about getting pregnant.  I am on the pill, we ALWAYS use condoms, and my husband still knows not to even look at me during my "fertile times."

I just know way too many people who got pregnant and were actively trying to prevent pregnancy, and somewhere along the way I convinced myself that if you weren't using AT LEAST two medically proven forms of birth control, then you were pretty much trying to conceive and would have about 17 children before you knew it.

we did the same thing up until a year ago, when  we decided to ditch the condoms. The pill really should work alone, it keeps you from ovulating so there shouldn't be an egg there to fertilize.

I guess once I get to a place where I feel like I wouldn't contemplate suicide if I were to get pregnant, then we'll probably back off of the multiple methods and just stick with the pill.  Until then though, DH better bundle up :)

V, I remember those days when we first got married and I told DH no kids until we have a house.  We used BC for 2 years, plus I would make DH "pull out" just in case and once we knew we were moving, I ditched the BC.   It's funny looking back to the 2 years I wasted money on BC, since it still took us another 2 years to get pg.

That is something I worry about.  We want to wait several more years until we have kids, and I know the older we get the harder it is to conceive.  I think once I get baby fever, if I have a hard time trying to conceive I'll probably hate myself for the lengths I went to, in order to NOT get pregnant for all these years.

  • I know I'm crazy, but I have a phobia of bushes that are next to sidewalks.  When I was growing up, there were some neighbors down the street that had a huge (like 7-9 feet tall) shrubbery that went the length of the path and somehow my parents convinced me that bad people hide in the bushes and steal little children.  So I won't walk next to any size bushes because I'm afraid someone will snatch me.  I'll make other people walk between me and the bush or cross the street if I'm all alone.

My best friend think this is hilarious, so for my college graduation he gave me hedge clippers and he even mentioned it during his toast at my wedding!
