Rihanna situation - clicky poll

I'm sure you've seen that Rihanna and Chris Brown have gotten back together to try to work things out.  However, he may still be prosecuted.  What do you think?

Re: Rihanna situation - clicky poll

  • If this were my daughter I would be so upset for so many reasons. First that she had been beaten, second that she went back. I worked with a women's shelter and I have studied this subject. Most of the time second chances only give the abuser a second chance to do a better job of beating of killing the victim. He should be punished for what he did and he should be in counseling for anger management. No amount of anger justifies beating your partner. This applies to both sexes. He did have a choice in this...he could have walked away without hitting her.
  • I certainly hope that the state still prosecutes him.  Just because she has forgiven him for now does not make it okay.  I hate that they are back together and that Puffy is allowing it to happen under his roof.  Just very disappointing.

  • Crap I hit the wrong button...I meant to hit yes so one of the no votes is invalid.

I agree that no matter what beating someone is not okay.  He should be prosecuted for what he did.  But however I am pretty disappointed that she is just going back to him.  I mean forgiving someone is one thing, but to just go right back to the situation?  What if it happens again?

  • I've very disturbed that she's back with him.  A lot of younger girls look up to her and IMO, this is giving off the wrong impression.  Not only is it horrible that she's back with him, it's also bad that she's putting herself in that situation again.  It's one thing to forgive, yet it's another thing to allow an opportunity for it to happen again.  I was hoping some positive would come from this very terrible situation, such as, shedding light on domestic violence and women's issues, yet it doesnt appear that's going to happen. The next Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston couple.

and don't forget Ike and Tina.

  • I voted yes.  It's such a sad situation.  Chris Brown doesn't seem to show any remorse.  I think his career is over.  I also wonder what kind of backlash Rhianna will experience.
  • I think he definitely should be. I'm still wondering why he only has charges for making threats and not assault or domestic violence...  I know it's hard to be in that situation, but I really thought that because she lived this in the public eye the would be less likely to get back together with him.  I've been in an emotionally abusive relationship before and it's really hard to see what's going on while you're in it.  I saw it clearly when it got physical and got out.  Admittedly, I did see him one more time after we broke up, but we never got back together.  Hopefully, this will be the case for her and she'll realize she doesn't need to be with him.
  • Of course I voted 'yes'. I really think that how they handle this situation is going to set a precedent for others... If it's swept under the rug, it's going to give off the idea that it's just relationship drama and not a serious problem. If the court throws the book at him, it's going to make it seem like the issue it deserves to be.

No person has the right to beat on someone else without the victim getting protection from the law. Isn't that one of the plethora of reasons why we have the law to begin with?

  • Amen to that...and what really upsets me is that on another site some of the girls (and from their writing they seem to be kids) are excusing his actions, saying he was just "upset" or she p***** him off as if THAT would give him a right to behave towards her the way he did. They are using the old "everyone deserves a second chance" excuse. It really sets a bad tone for younger, more impressionable girls who are trying to make sense of male/female relationships.

My thoughts exactly- in particular people who look up to Rhianna and/or Chris Brown.

Rhianna is such an inspiration, it's a shame she didn't use this as an opportunity to set an example for younger girls who identify with her... You know what I mean?
