I'm quite familiar with Richmond, VA since my little brother went to college there, but this time I'm traveling with my husband's soccer team, they are competing in the Jefferson Cup next weekend. I'm looking for some nearby restaurant recommendations to the hotel and fields, as they are only about 5 minutes apart. I really wanted to take them to Bottom's Up; but it's a little far with a bunch of 10-year olds who will be getting done with games late, and still have to get to bed early enough for the following day's games.
We're staying at the Marriott Richmond West. Any restaurant suggestions? I saw Maggiano's is nearby, but I think that may be too heavy for a weekend of soccer.
Thanks!
Re: Traveling to Richmond...
Capital Ale House is delicious and right near there. They have a back room so they could probably seat lots of people. Short Pump is near by and they have 8 million restaurants including California Pizza Kitchen, Red Robin, Vinny's (Inexpensive and delicious Italian, its on Lauderdale) and Mexico Restaurant. All of those are kid friendly.
Thanks so much, I was wondering about the Ale House. I saw that on the Marriott website and thought it looked good. Excellent to know about the back room, we may have about 35 together. May call them today for a reservation for Saturday, 3/14.
My brother went to U of R, he graduated in 2005 and went to Wake Forest for his masters in Chemistry, he now teaches chemistry at Ballou in DC. I see you are a U of R student, correct?
If I am thinking right the Jefferson Cup is over at Strikers Park. This is right by Short Pump Mall (which has many options) and actually there is now a Bottoms Up over in the West End. Very close to Strikers Park.
You can cut through on Twin Hickory Road, keep on there and turn left into strip mall there. Its over by the Brusters. Its right of Nuckols Road too.
Some people do not like it as much as the one in the bottom, but its still good and a good place for a large group.
