Thought I would post this in case anyone is interested -
Every year the Junior League has a speaker come to town, this year it is Liz Murray (she was homeless and got into Harvard). I am excited to go with my mom, I am taking her as an early Mother's Day present.
Here is the blurb from our website:
Join us on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Yorktowne Hotel in York, PA for an evening of inspiration. Liz Murray tells of growing up with two drug addicted parents. At the age of ten, she found herself supporting them; and after the death of her mother, she became homeless at the age of 15. She shares with the audience an uplifting tale of overcoming incredible obstacles to finsih high school while living on the streets of New York.
Her story was subject of the 2003 Emmy-nominated Lifetime TV movie, Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. She was awarded a New York Times scholarship for needy students and accepted into Harvard University. To learn more about Liz's incredible story see below.
