Honeymoon Questions from a Knottie

Where did you go??
AI??Which one?
What made you and DH choose this destination??
What was your favorite activity or "must do" attraction??
How long did you go for??
Price scale if you don't mind sharing? (0-$3,000=$ $3,000-$5,000= $$ $5,000+ = $$$)?

We're trying to scope out different options right now and any advice would be greatly appreciated!?

?

TIA!?

Re: Honeymoon Questions from a Knottie

  • we went to excellence Punta Cana (in the Dominicam Republic), it was AI, we chose it cuz it was affordable for us, but also AI, we went for either 6 days or 6 nights.  We had fun on the beach, and enjoyed this Michael Jackson show they do.  Every evening there was some sort of entertainment at the place.  We just relaxed together, met other couples by the swim up bar, enjoyed dining.  Had fun in the water.  (the only excursion we took was to the ER, I don't reccommend that, I got sick from something, and ended up slipping on the tile floor running to the bathroom and needed 6 stitches in the back of my head) it was right around 3K.

  • We did a "pre-moon" because we couldn't get a lot of time off after our wedding.   2 weeks in Europe (Berlin, Prague, Vienna, & Budapest-the 1st 3 were cities we've never been to & I'm Hungarian & needed to see some relatives).  We are not the "sit in the sun on the beach people."  So our favorite activities are walking around the little neighborhoods, checking out the restaurants & food (lots of eating!), & history & local festivals, etc.  We took trains between the cities.  My 2 favorite cities were Prague & Budapest (you could definitely spend your whole honeymoon in one of them).  The cost was probably in the mid-range, not including airfaire (we used miles that we scrounged together with my parents' help).   A lot of the cost of these types of trips are the hotels & restaurants you go to, & how you decide to travel around.  It's a lot more planning than AI, but we are planners & love going through the guidebooks & sitting on the train & planning out our next city.  Good luck!
  • we went on a carribbean cruise. we chose that because we got married in puerto rico, so we were kinda already there. its a great way to see different islands. we went for 7 days and it cost about $3,000 including airfare.
  • We went to the Oasis Palm Beach in Cancun (they say Riviera Maya - it is really just Cancun).  We chose it because my husband insisted we needed to go for 2 weeks and we ddint have a big budget, alot of other resorts were over our price range before we planned any excursions and we wanted to do excursions.  We did quite a few excursions - we went snorkeling ( I didnt think i would really like that but it was my favorite) we went swimming with dolphins, on a pirate ship dinner cruise, to the mayan ruins, parasailing and jet boating.  We spent alot of time exploring the city as well.  We chose ai mostly for the alcohol - we knew when we were around the resort we would want to drink, and to not have to worry about the price made it very nice.  We only ate 3 meals off the resort and that was just becuase we wanted to.  The food at the resort was good.  For everything we spent right around $3000 but both of us agreed that 2 weeks was too long for us - by day 10 we were both ready to go home.
  • We went to Tamarindo, Costa Rica (flew into San Jose and then took a puddle jumper to Tamarindo).  It was not AI but cost us about 3,000.00 for everything.  We chose Costa Rica because we wanted tropical, we wanted to learn how to surf and I speak Spanish so I like to visit Spanish speaking countries.  We went for a week and it was awesome - so beautiful and the people are so friendly.  We could have done so much more or traveled around the country but we stayed in one place.  Their is so much to do there - rainforests, beach, volcanos.  I highly reccommend it!
  • punta cana

Yes, Bahia principe. I have also heard great things about the Majestic Colonial.

We chose it based on what we could get for our money and were very satisfied with our choice except that we didn't do adults only and it was summer so there were a lot of families. Didn't really bother us but I could see it being an issue for some people.

We took a tour of the countryside which was awesome. We also enjoyed catamaraning.
