Hill Country- day trip ideas

A couple of friends and I would like to plan a day to drive to the hill country, shop a little, visit a winery or two. Any recommendations of must-see spots? Any places to stay away from? Thanks gals!

  • Fredericksburg is where you'll want to go then!

  • Definitely Fredericksburg. I'm actually doing a winery trip for my bday in a few weeks. We're just doing a day trip though. DH and I stayed for our one year anniversary at the Fredericksburg Bed and Brew. He liked it because instead of breakfast you got free beer. This site has all the info on the local wineries. I used this site to find the B&B.

  • I vote for Fredericksburg, too. We're going on a winery day trip next weekend. I think you can even BBQ or bring your lunch to some of them!

  • I love the Hill Country...of course my Mom is from there and I lived there for a year doing my student teaching. Kerrville is nice, Fredericksburg for the more populous/touristy stuff. I lived in Mason which is a cute little small town with some great restaurants. There are so many cute little places that tourists just don't get to. I would go for a real tour but it would take more than a day. Smile
