Bored...favorite kid things?

What were your favorite things as a kid?

Books: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Amelia Bedelia books, something about a Panda Cake, Frog and Toad, No Good Very Bad Day, Berenstain Bears.

TV: Sesame Street, Raffi, Zooobaleezoo, Polka Dot Door

Toys: JEM doll, Rainbow Brite house, Skip It, Play-Doh, Shrink-e-dinks, those stained glass things you paint, She-Ra doll, Barbies. I always wanted one of those fake kitchen set-ups but never got one.

Re: Bored...favorite kid things?

  • i was all about judy blume books, the sweet valley high series, and when i was much younger there was a series about three friends named betsy, tacy and tib that i loved.

i always got the ghetto toys.  like, some lame ass knockoff of monopoly and dolls that tried to be barbie but weren't.  i had real barbies too, but i had more shitty_ass stuff than good ones.  i desperately wanted the fresh & fancy set that you could make your own makeup with, but never got it.  but i did have a holly hobbie bake oven, and i baked the hell outta some chocolate cake with that light bulb.

I loved those too! I never met anyone else who read the Betsy, Tacy and Tib books.

Other books: Ramona Quimby series, anything Judy Blume, anything Marilyn Sachs, the Baby-Sitters Club series, SVH, Cheerleaders (another cheesy series that no one else read).

TV Shows: JEM, Smurfs, Snorks, Looney Toons and a lot of repeats of stuff like Brady Bunch, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, etc.

Toys: Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids, Hello Kitty stuff, Light-brite, tea sets. I always wanted an EZ-bake oven though.

  • This thread reminds me of the very few toys and limited television of my childhood.

I guess my favorite thing was sneaking in TV when my parents weren't home. My brother and I would have to remember what channel the TV was on and switch it back when we heard the garage door open.

Unfortunately, this ruse stopped working when my mom got wise and started feeling whether the TV set was warm.

    That was a sad day.?

  • You always want what you can't have.
Heck, my brother writes?for TV now.

    The moral of the story?

If my parents wanted us to be two doctors who don't watch TV, they should've let us watch TV and kept us away from science.

I read Cheerleaders too! I have the clearest memory of when Olivia and Ben went hiking and Ben fell down and DIED. I also remember Mary Ellen...not much else. Who was that cocky guy? Patrick??

Cocky rich guy = Preston or Pres for short.

Patrick was the guy who was in love with Mary Ellen but too blue collar for her hoity-toity ass.
