we adopted a dog!

We adopted a dog today!

Her name is "Tai", she's 6, and we adopted her from Noah's Bark, one of the local rescue organizations. She's very docile -she's being fostered with a family with other dogs, cats and little kids, and the foster mom said that for the most part, Tai ignores the cats, doesn't much like when other dogs get in her face (she walks away) and she likes kids. Her foster mom said she's simply not aggressive (which is nice, considering we have B and 5 cats) but she's a little timid of men.

When we went to Petco today for the adoption, she was in a crate. DH and B squatted down next to the crate, and she put her nose against the mesh and licked B's fingers... good sign!

She's a little underwweight, and she probably needs some vitamins, and I'd really like to do something about her name (I'd never pick "tai", i'd end up calling the poor thing mai-tai or something. It reminds me of "Clueless" anyway) but she already has learned Tai and I'd hate to confuse her. Maybe I can call her Tiger...

Her foster mom is bringing her home to us tomorrow morning... oh boy! I think we needed another pet like we needed a hole in the head, but what can I say? we're a pet family.

Re: we adopted a dog!

  • What a sweet girl! I bet Blair will love her. Congrats on your new family addition. [&]
  • What a cutie! Thank you for adopting and especially for adopting an older dog. We attended an adoption event today and it seems like everyone is looking for puppies. There are so many older dogs out there that are in need of great homes, especially with the current housing crisis. Unfortunately we didn't find the right dog for us, but we will continue looking for as long as it takes.

I'd probably change her name too but would try to keep it from being too confusing for her. Maybe Tyra?

  • Congrats on the new addition. ?I thought you could call her tai-tai. Keeping the name may be easy for blair too when she starts speaking.
