Summer jobs for teachers?

This is going to be my first Florida summer and I'm going to need a job (I'm a teacher, so school lets out in early June). Up north, I used to do the extended school year with my students with special needs, but apparently they don't do that down here. Any recommendations as to where I can find a summer job in or around Clermont? What do other teachers do down here? (I'd love to work at a daycare or something...)

Thank you for your help!! Big Smile

Re: Summer jobs for teachers?

  • I know quite a few teachers who score online for extra money ($15-20/hr). I'm not sure how many opportunities they have in the summer, but you may want to try companies like Pearson and ETS.
    Hawaii
  • I work at Disney.
  • When I was in high school I was a teacher's aide for Sylvan Learning Center. They only use certified teachers, and I think they do more sessions during the summer. I don't know anything about the pay, but the hours weren't bad so it might be worth it to look into.
  • I work for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt School Publishers, and in past years they hire teachers in the summer to do editorial work on whatever program is in the works. I'm not sure the pay, and they haven't announced anything yet. When and if they do I can post something on here. HMH is located across the street from Sea World.
  • What about camp counselor?  Might sound childish...but could be fun!  OR offer up tutoring services on Craigslist..or see if someone needs childcare services for there school-aged kids.

  • Thanks for posting this!  DH is a high school teacher and generally enjoys his summers off, but after reading all these options I might just put him to work, ha!
  • awesome ideas, guys! thank you so much - keep 'em comingSmile A summer job will get me one step closer to being more prepared (financially) for a baby in the future!

  • My sister is a teacher and she always tutors. A lot of the kids she tutors are previous students (which doesn't really help you out much) but you could always check with a local company and see if they will hire you for summer programs. Or try a day care center just to keep yourself busy. Good luck!
  • Hi!  Well, my job isn't teacher related, but it works great for teachers & people who need a little extra cash in the summer.

My family owns a business where we do customized medical training kits for nursing programs around the country.  We use assembly people/line workers to actually put the bags together (no machines here!) and since school lets out around June and begins in August, it is typically when we are the busiest.  We usually run a night shift & day shift and are pretty flexible with hours.  I'm not sure of the pay, but if you are in the Oak Ridge High School area, it may be something for you or a friend.  We have had teachers do the work before since it works so well with their scheduling, and we have make long lasting friendships in the process!

If you are interested in being updated when we are getting ready to hire for the summer, please email me at kristy@gracetrainingsupply.com and I will let my family know.  you can also go to our website to see what we do www.gracetrainingsupply.com

We are a small, family owned, woman owned/operated business, and most of us are family.  At the end of the summer, you'll have a whole new family to call your own!

    Kristy
