Miami travel and marlins stadium?

Reposting this from the North florida page.....

Hi from pennsylvania!
DH and I are planning a trip to Miami for the end of April. We're hoping to get to a Marlins/Phillies game while we're out there.

Does anyone have any suggestions on nice/clean yet affordable hotels? Any places we should make sure to visit? Also, does anyone know how difficult it is for someone without a car to get from a hotel to the stadium? We're hoping to not have to rent a car and drive in the city.

TIA

Re: Miami travel and marlins stadium?

  • There aren't many hotel options near the stadium; therefore, a taxi will be needed.  The area around the stadium is mostly residential, and not very touristy.  If you plan on going / staying at the beach, or more touristy areas (Coral Gables, Brickell, Coconut Grove), expect about a 30 min commute (with semi-traffic) to the stadium.  Maybe you can rent the car only for the day?

April is perfect time to visit the beaches and relax.

  • The area surrounding the stadium is purely residential, as cocojack10 stated... but it isn't exactly a "great" area. I would stay more in the North Beach area, which is nearby. There are so many places to visit... the possibilities are endless! You can visit the Bal Harbor Shops, the Beaches, etc... it all depends on what you guys are into...

  • I think the nearest hotel to the stadium (or the nearest decent hotel) is the Hard Rock. That area isn't very touristy like the others mentioned and you will need a car or taxi to take you to the stadium.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies! how "bad" is the traffic there? I get afraid of stadium traffic to begin with, and in an unknown town...
  • it depends... when there's a game, the traffic is bad leading up to the stadium (understandable). i would just plan to be there super early to enjoy some drinks, or go to the cafe area...
