Hardwood in bedrooms?

What do you girls think about hardwood floors in bedrooms? I love the look of hardwood and we hate our carpet so we are talking about hardwood in the living/hall way but then I started thinking about the bedrooms too! Would it be too cold? Would it detract or add to our value??

Thanks! :)

Re: Hardwood in bedrooms?

  • We've got hardwoods all through the house. I honestly really don't notice the floors being cold when I get out of bed - if my feet get cold, I'll pull on some socks, but that's usually because the house itself is cold.

We actually specifically chose our house because there were hardwoods everywhere - I've got allergies, so we would have ripped out any carpet in any case.

  • I love hardwood floors in bedrooms. I wish we had them! Don't quote me one this, but I think they add value to a home because they are cleaner than carpet and the look does not get dated the way that carpet can. Most people that I know that have them throw an area rug down around beds, couches, etc. to keep the floor from feeling cold. You can always wear slippers!

  • Our house is about 60 years old and has all original hardwoods.  When we bought the house there was carpet over all of it, even in the kitchen and the bathroom.  Yeah, groos.  This past fall we took up the carpet in the bathroom, hallway, living room and kitchen, and next fall we plan to do the 2 bedrooms.  I think it adds value and beauty to the house that carpet can't.  Plus, if you have a shaggy dog like we do it's much easier to care for than carpet.  Hardwoods will most definitely add value to your home.
  • I love the look of hardwood; I'd just toss a big rug underneath the bed or at the sides so you have something warm to step onto in the mornings. I also agree with pp who thought it would show its age less than carpet.
